Genaro had some great one liners.  This alone is proof of mastery as I well know.  But DJ could wax poetic and make Carlos cry or wet his pants at any time to get his message across.  That's not easy.  I just wish we had an enemies killed count as that would make this easier.

Don Juan because he DGAF, he was a total badass. Don Genaro had a few parlour tricks sure but he was no DJ

Then how do you explain Don Juans awe of Genaro?  He alway's spoke of him in terms of absolute mastery.  He said of him, " the world is only real when I am with this one" (speaking of Genaro)  He also called him the "real deal".

Eh, idk I was kind of kidding but I preferred Juan anyway. Truthfully I think Miller beats them both, the real deal.

Real deal? What is that?  I love Miller and I love CC both for many of the same reasons.

Do you guys think Don Genaro was actually doing all that whacked out crazy stuff? Serious question.

Personally I like Don Juan's philosophies and knowledge but Don Genaro was capable of all sorts of stuff. Although I think it's implicit in the books they were each capable of playing either role, in their own way.

Neither of them sucked like Osho.  Or Baghwan Shree Rajneesh.

But in the end fuck them all.  Books written by con men hoping to cash in on lies.

Fuck them all.  And don't get me started on Walt Disney.

You never had a childhood then.  I would post another Rolling Stones Sad Sad Sad video but even I am not ready for Mick's thick lips again today.

A lass.

I like Osho cause he's got some good ideas and sometimes I wonder if I could aspire to be someone just like him. Cashing in big time on people's ignorance. I want my 100 roll's royce and my medical grade nitrous tank.

The story that made me like him initially was: He was at his house and called a press conference. When the press arrived he was sitting in an armchair hooked up with both nostrils to a dentist's NOS tank. The press left upon seeing this, probably thinking this man isn't enlightened, look at what he's doing to himself. :trolldance:

Knowing now it was fiction I've got a fair bit more respect for Castaneda...I was sucked in to thinking that it was real college research or whatever and that it was a mix of warrior code, philosophy and metaphors in Genaro's acrobatics etc. CC was a pretty clued in guy.

But I've read websites where it states there were heaps of people going down to try and find don Juan after reading the books back when they first came out - maybe it wasn't clear to many people it was fiction, or that lots of people were sucked in too?

CC was a Coyote trickster.

And likely a self serving egotist also.

I read he lived with 3 young women in a mansion. Pretty sure thats the mark of a true warrior. Figure out a way to provide, then take the women.

I actually have very little interest in what is written about who he was. Most of my interest is in what he wrote.

To me he fit the same shoes as Leary, Watts, Osho and people are quick to bring up their lives when questioning their credibility or claim of truth. Knowing now it's fiction and he's not proclaiming to be a proponent of any truth or anything takes that burden off him I guess.

"You haven't changed a bit" - don Juan. Shows he isn't saying he is a warrior with all the answers.

Don Juan was the better of the two. Why? Because he is Don Juan...duh.

I'd really like to know why you think that.  Is it just because DJ was so good at talking?

I know he wasn't a choice but I have to go with Don Coleone.

Wisdom just flows from this man.

You give your loyalty to your family, not to strangers.

He always tried persuasion before he resorted to coercion.

He had the brains to refuse involvement in the heroin trade, because he knew it would be the eventual downfall of the organization.

He asks a young man he has always helped out (and intentionally in earshot of his philandering son) Do you spend time with your family, because nobody can be a man unless he spends time with his family.

He promotes his talented adoptive son to an important position, and leaves his less talented son and son-in-law in lower jobs.

He consolidated control as much through his political contacts that he bought off as through muscle. Today he would be an important lobbyist.

To end a gang war he said he would forgo all vengeance on the life of his son. But he said he had selfish reasons. He had another son. And if something were to happen to that son, if he should hang himself in his cell, if he should be shot in the head by a police officer, if he should be struck by lightning, then he was going to blame some of the people he just granted forgiveness to. He mentioned superstition just as a way of convincing all his rival that he never believed in it.

Don Corleone was quite a  political philosopher as well as being one of the key figures in literary and cinematic history.
Uhh, sorry for changing the subject.

Yah, I don't know if I got my point across (it's been so long I feel like I need to read again to make sure).  But Genaro would do something like a magical feat that just seemed impossible and then again show it from a different angle, so that Carlos would experience what was really going on, from his own vantage point, without Genaro telling him anything.  Then Don Juan would do exactly what you said, lol.  I suppose that as an adult, I don't really want to piss my pants, so I don't want anything rough truth forced on me - but if you're gonna hang with Don Juan, that comes with the territory.  Then again, I prefer vaping DMT to smoking salvia   Either way though, were great stories, would just devour through them as a teen.

Everything is better than it was the last time.  I'm good.

If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care.

It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence.

I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too.  If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.
