Who was better?

Who was the most perfect man of knowledge.  Was it Don Juan or Don Genaro? 

They were both pretty damn good so I want some reasons.

I liked Genaro, he had more hands on perceptual demonstration... Don Juan had piercing laser focused mind.... (off the top of my head, I haven't thought about this stuff in a decade)  Genaro was more improv...

That was back before Youtube and broadband when we had to read stuff for kicks.... :oldman:

Genaro had some great one liners.  This alone is proof of mastery as I well know.  But DJ could wax poetic and make Carlos cry or wet his pants at any time to get his message across.  That's not easy.  I just wish we had an enemies killed count as that would make this easier.

i think don genero was deeper in than don juan, but i remember that they played eachother against their apprentices

Do you guys think Don Genaro was actually doing all that whacked out crazy stuff? Serious question.

Personally I like Don Juan's philosophies and knowledge but Don Genaro was capable of all sorts of stuff. Although I think it's implicit in the books they were each capable of playing either role, in their own way.

Don Juan because he DGAF, he was a total badass. Don Genaro had a few parlour tricks sure but he was no DJ

yeah, these books really shaped the way i look at the world and human interactions.

like when carlos realized he still hated his dad for promising to go to the lake with him, but his dad never got up in the morning.


don juan was all like "why didn't you just go on your own?"

Then how do you explain Don Juans awe of Genaro?  He alway's spoke of him in terms of absolute mastery.  He said of him, " the world is only real when I am with this one" (speaking of Genaro)  He also called him the "real deal".

The actual teachings imbedded within a fictional story hold up to scrutiny completely imo.  Whenever I have been able to apply them to my daily life, even a little, they have never once failed to work as described.
