Re: a quick education on the 1million$ challenge. [Re: truekimbo2]

In Houston.

What would you/he plan on doing? Is spinning a pin wheel what you consider telekinesis?

Everyone, what ways are there of preventing fraudulence? Any easy way to spin it in a container?

There's a video on that site of someone supposedly spinning a pinwheel from within a container... of course there's about 50 easy ways to fake that... there's also a photo of someone "levitating" a pocketknife... looks exactly like he tossed it in the air.

if its in a sealed container and the subject with tk doesnt get to fold the paper himself to make the 'pinwheel', its really beyond conventional means of faking it.

There are still ways to fake it.

The experiment should be set up like so:

The pinwheel is put together by an impartial observer, following the directions of the performer. This must be observed by a scientist (physicist or something) and an illusionist. There have been times when scientists have been fooled by clever slight of hand, tricks that an illusionist has no trouble spotting.

Videotape it from a few angles, and have the observers give their opinion on what they saw.

Do you honestly believe that if someone figured out how to levitate objects and an intelligence agency like the CIA found out, they wouldn't be knocking on his door and escorting him to some top secret base to experiment with his powers? And you honestly believe that they would tell the rest of the world about it?

If telekinisis exists, and is possible to learn with proper instruction, would the government want thousands of people to learn abilities beyond the rest of humanity and their control systems? OF COURSE NOT.

So if any of these paranormal powers exist, it is plausible that the government would try to keep their existence unknown to the mass, public.

If someone invented a magic laser that could blow up planets from far away, do you honestly think that the CIA wouldn't capture that person to study the technology and keep it under wraps?

Therefore, it's plausible that the CIA has captured someone with a magic interplanetary death laser.

People who set limitations on reality do so out of fear.

There are minor exceptions, but I'm rather unconvinced.

I'm also very suprised that a community that openly discusses mind altering psychedelics would be so close-minded as to stoop to the level of the average american in idiocy and say something is "not possible".

You are all children upon this planet, and you are all mortal. No one here is "better" than anyone else, so why engage in destructive arguments like this?

Myself... it could be possible, I guess. I mean, there are a lot of things I don't understand about the universe, science isn't exactly my forte... well, it could be, but I don't really want to pursue it... anyways, with all the unseen fields of energy, all the connections between everything, and perhaps the nature of the Zen mind (which I really need to look into), maybe it is possible.

I've never seen anyone do it; I've never even directly been around anyone who claimed to be able to do it, and I don't have anything more than a casual interest in it to strive to achieve the ability if it even is possible... so I don't know much of anything either way on this subject.

I hold some amount of skepticism, however, of anyone who comes on here to claim they have ability in it, going as far as to say that it takes a lot of intense and strenous training to gain that ability, and then they shrug it off as something that isn't all that amazing to do.. that whole bit... I spent hours everyday learning how to fly, you know, and I can now fly, but it isn't all that great, and there are better things to do instead of fly... sure...
Peace.

Just because someone is skeptical does not mean they are closed minded. It means they are thinking critically. When they see someone claiming to do something fantastical, instead of just blindly swallowing whatever explanation they are given, they think critically, and wonder if perhaps the reality is something else.

Scenario:

You put out a saucer of milk, and go to sleep. When you come down in the morning, the milk is gone.

What happened?

a) Your cat drank it.
b) The milk faeries took it.

Since we know for certain that the cat exists, and likes drinking milk, so we can be sure that this is a valid possibility. We aren't sure if the milk faeries exist, in fact they were fabricated for the purposes of the explanation.

Does this mean for certain that the cat drank it? No, it actually could have been the milk faeries, but the most likely explanation is that the cat drank it. Maybe neither explanation is correct. We can't tell for certain, but we can come up with possibilities, and we can deduce which are more likely than others.

For instance, we know illusionists and magicians exist, and they have the ability to create astonishing tricks and illusions, without using mystical or paranormal powers.

Someone places their hands in front of a ball, and it seems to levitate from the ground for a moment, and then fall back down. They claim they used telekinesis to do this.

We know that these tricks can be done using techniques any illusionist is familiar with, and we also know that these things have never been replicated in a controlled lab setting as part of a well laid out experiment. Knowing this, is it more likely that:

a) Telekinesis was actually used.
or
b) This was all an illusion.

No no, that was not the point of my post. You claimed that only conspiracy quacks would believe truekimbo's explanation for the reason why telekinesis has not been proven or known to the scientific community. I was simply trying to state that his explanation, IF TELEKINESIS EXISTS, is not that outlandish.

It might not be, but there's no evidence that the government has ever been in the business of kidnapping people, and if this is a skill the average person could develop, it would be pretty hard to keep it under wraps.

Yeah come on people. Drug users can and should be skeptics. If we weren't skeptics we would all still be drinking CP and smoking banana peels.

Have you ever seen David Copperfield or Penn and Teller, they do way more amazing things than any telekenises person claims he can do. But these illusionists are honest and say that all their actions are just illusions.

If someone who claims he/she had TK powers and also had the skills of Copperfield they could easily fool me.

Exactly, there are hundreds of books out there explaining in detail how to do magic tricks... which is basically faking telekinesis or ESP. It's not beyond anyone to be able to perform some tricks with a bit of practice, and with a lot of dedication and talent, you can blow all kinds of minds.

its not hard at all to keep under wraps considering that hardcore skeptism is a completely prevalent paradign in this culture. like hardcore to extreme skeptism.

Yeah a good dose of skepticism is something most well educated people have. It's only natural to develop skepticism in a society where your constantly bombarded by utter nonsense and fake facts.
