Make your case, if you have one.

IQ tests measure intelligence? I believe it is you, sir, who are more direly in need of a case. :brilliant:

There is little correlation between "high IQ" and good decision making.

Some of the most emotionally retarded people I know have IQs over 150.

  Your "Arguments" are so weak.  Intelligence is a very broad concept and cannot be measured by one single "test" in an all-encompassing manner.

The legitimacy of the IQ test already stands on weak legs.  There is a lot of controvery behind it, and those in the highest-scoring range are the ones that most often question it's legitimacy.  If anything, it is you who needs to make the case for why something like the IQ test should serve as the basis for how we decide who is genetically "inferior" or "superior".

The IQ test is just an excellent way for intellectual snobs like you to show off how "intelligent" you think you are to other people.  And before you try to go that route, I scored very high on the IQ test the last time I took it (although that was awhile ago) so it's not because I'm just butthurt that I received a low score.

For the record, I don't really disagree with your idea of voluntary eugenics.  I just think the way you are arguing about it is really stupid.  The IQ test is not a definitive enough measure to determine who deserves to stay in the gene pool and who should get out.

And by the way, lacking intelligence does not always equate to underachieving.  Many people we would consider "dumb" have made it extremely far in this society.  Don't make me give names.

You and Pol Pot would've been great friends.

Sure he did the opposite thing, he executed all the intellectuals, but I'm sure you could've easily convinced him to kill the ones who scored under 85 on an IQ test too. :super:

It's not perfect, but can you propose a serious alternative? The goal here is to cut down on overpopulation while thinning the herd of losers, not on the basis of ancestry, beliefs, culture or social status. What would be better than an IQ test?

That's because people in the highest-scoring range are extremely intelligent and question just about everything. Constructive criticism does not equal invalidation.

Again, give me something better.

 Oh man, talk about the pot and the fucking kettle. I've never even taken an IQ test. I'm kind of scared of what it says. I bet it's over 100, but what if it's like 102 or something? I'd be like :okay:

That's why I made the comparison to Hitler, the whole Nazi racial ideology was based off of eugenics. Now, of course, just believing that eugenics is a great idea does not mean you're going to start shoveling people into the gas chamber; however, the Nazis didn't get the gas chambers overnight.

I don't know, but let's figure that out before we just jump in and start frying peoples' "gonads".

Many don't just question it, but reject it outright.  It's controversial and you know it.

No, the reason why we're doing eugenics is because we're trying to do mother nature's bidding and rat out the "unfavorable" or inferior genes.

If there is not an exact correlation between intelligence and success, then maybe our notions of genetic superiority should be broader and encompass more than just intelligence.

Eugenics is not about doing mother nature's bidding, it's about defending ourselves from natural selection. Idiots are reproducing like rabbits while intelligent people often die childless. This is a national crisis.

I agree that the IQ test is not really sufficient to determine an individual's genetic worth, but like I said, we've got to start somewhere. There should be some criteria for empirically determining the reproductive value of an individual. It should be based entirely on the demonstrable merit of the given individual while completely ignoring his ethnic, religious, cultural, social, economic, etc. background. Those deemed unfit to reproduce should be strongly encouraged not to do so by the state, while those deemed meritorious should be supported in that pursuit. Coersion is not necessary; idiots who reproduce should be assisted so as to limit damage to the proceeding generation. But the benefits of sterilization should be irresistable and the benefits offered the meritorious who reproduce should be extravagant.

That's what I'm saying.  We should put more effort in determining somebody's "genetic worth", rather than just saying that you should score at least an 85 on an IQ test if you want to reproduce.

So you want the government to have the power to make decisions about who is allowed to have children based on tests designed by the government. They can select by any trait they want, including obedience, loyalty, tendency to question, etc.

That sounds like a good idea to you?

Sure, although it probably wouldn't be as urgent if we just didn't consume as much.  Of course we're not going to decrease our consumption though.

Eugenics is a great idea in theory.  However, in practice, it will never work because social programs like this require the cooperation of the entire population.  You'll never convince religious zealots and other kooks with voting power to go along with this idea.  Many, many people consider reproduction a basic human right.  Good theory, though.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenics

Wow, seriously? You'd get along real well with the likes of Hitler then. Do you really support forced (or shall we say "voluntary") sterilizations and abortions?

Do you really believe that there are "genetically" inferior people that do not deserve to reproduce? Who are these people exactly? The disabled? Blacks? Homosexuals? Jews? "Religious zealots and other kooks"?

My god man.

Thread is over.

Right from your link man .

Also, smoking isn't good for you built a business owner should have the right to choose whether or not they will allow smoking. This just further exposes the mindset of a nanny stater.
