I thought he was dead.  But you're right.  He's still puttering about in his garden.

What could you possibly have against Ram Dass, for Christ's sake.

he captivates gullible people into believing fairy tales, not unlike leaders of North Korea, or that Jim Jones character. only Ram Dass might not be violent.

people already do, unless they choose to believe a supposed deity; but for the most part... people believe in themselves, cause that's all there is to believe, that you can trust. no one would do any different, unless of course, the deity thing.

Steve-O.  He said that people are afraid of death and that they can only accept dying if they know that they leave a part of themselves behind.  In their subconscious mind, this makes them immortal.  So they're okay with dying, just as long as they know they're immortal.  If that makes sense.

What do you think of Steve-O's theory?

steve-o is a fucking retard, having kids doesnt make one not fear dying
because of a legacy, those that fear dying continue to do so even after
procreating, those that want to leave some breathing offspring will have kids
to continue their name. why must there be some justification for having kids,
sounds like you're trying to justify not having them so you're looking for
all the reasons people do

why cant kids be what they are, a byproduct of fucking

QFT

If anything, being a parent can make one more afraid to die.

i'm gay and i will most probably never have my own kids
but recently this family kids thing got me thinking..
i asked myself..ok i won't have my own kids..but if i was straight, what would the reason to have kids be? and i can't find an answer to this..
maybe it would just happen spontaneously ''out of love''..but that's rare to happen even in str8 couples, most of them plan it ? or have an agenda to get someone JUST to have a family because that's tradition?
the only reasonable answer for me is that a kid happens out of love..planning a kid just for the sake of reproducing seems kinda dumb to me
and then everyone gets so exited about the baby..it's great i guess but why the fuck be so overly exited and become a completely different person
not to mention that most mothers don't breastfeed the kid long enough which is complete bullshit

and then my family members  ask me,when will u have a gf and a kid? like wtf? they must be trolling me or something

I didn't read the thread but I thought I'd add something...
Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is selfish in one way or another.
If murder made you look good, everybody would be killing everybody.
I think the best way to go through life is by going through with somewhat selfish actions that also help those around you.
If you truly think your kid is going to help the world some day, why not have one?
Sure, the human race is screwing up the planet now, but we have the technology(or are getting close to having it)to IMPROVE life.
Humans are too much of an evolutionary goldmine to just obliterate, so, if we someday hope to improve life, kids must be had, that's just how it is.

The problem is TOO MANY people are having kids. The quality of life could be much better if the world didn't have 7 billion people in my opinion.

Technology cannot fix everything and creates new problems. If we used a little common sense as a species that would be much better.

I agree.
A limit of one kid would be sensible and would cut the population in half.
Unfortunately, getting every country on that boat would be next to impossible.
There really isn't a quick fix to the population issue, but something needs to be done.

I mean sure, they are a go, but abortions are protested and condoms and iuds aren't used.
Third world countries don't even have easily accessed birth control, and if they did I doubt they would use it.
Placing a limit on children would limit the issue, but the problem is even scientists aren't on that boat.
I'm pretty sure the current erroneous theory is that the population will cap out at 10 billion in two thousand something.

Honestly, I don't have a brother/sister so I can't relate.
I do however, have a friend that is like a brother to me, and it's a solid replacement imo.

I believe that can be a solid replacement.  A little brother is just like a best friend and buddy that you're always with.  Someone to play with when you're a toddler and too young to actually hang with other kids.
