Re: losing faith in humanity [Re: Sleepwalker]
    #11597234 -

Of all the things that seem unlikely to me that seems about the most. There can be a temporary lull in hostilities but the moment the pressure is off.

For instance I heard that a few years ago when our economy was red hot over 60% of folk considered themselves very concerned over global warming. Guess what, now that people are out of jobs that is very low on the concern list.

When Russia conquered all those satellite countries they virtually stopped ethnic violence. When the soviet union broke up guess what. Many of those countries couldn't wait to start it all back up. Yeah freedom, freedom to fight.

I lost faith in humanity a long time ago. Then again what is there to have faith in? In the long run this is gonna all end and there's really nothing to have faith in.

Hey All,

I came across this post via goggle. It reminded me of a dark place I was in a few years back until I read a post by Michael Halding on his old blog. It changed my perspective forever. I kept a copy of it so I could read whenever I felt down and out. I want to share it with you all. I hope it helps some of you as it did me. Enjoy!

Love these forums by the way lots of interesting reads. I may stick around here for awhile

Oh, of you see any astrix symbols on the post below, it's because I copied it from my iPad. It does something weird with the formatting. Sorry!

"3 Paths of Humanity"
By Michael Halding

A follower of the blog, who wishes to remain anonymous, which is fine--I understand, asked me an interesting question. A question that took me years of experiences to finally solve:

"Why are nice people treated badly by most people in this day in age? I've lost all my faith in humanity. What should I do?"

What I have to say may make you upset, but please trust me, and read all the way through. I promise it will all make sense toward the close. Remember, I'm here to help, not to bash or harm.

To begin, allow me to debunk something for you--this has been going on throughout the history of mankind, it's not a recent development. Now, let's move on to the core--why do they?

All people are born in one of two categories, weak or strong. It's true whether you want to believe it or not. However, the real question is, will you remain the way you were born, change into something worse, or possibly something better?

Most of the human population allow their "basic animal instincts" to dictate their lives, and this is the first half of the answer. Let me explain. Myth: "Most people" are nice because they are kind hearted and truly love everyone. Yes, that's right, it's a myth, "most people" are simply nice because they are weak. Their basic animal instincts are taking control of them. They use being nice as a shield to hide behind. A way to display nonaggression to those who are dominate in order to avoid confrontation. It's true, and also make a note of the fact that I said, "most."

On the opposite end, you have those that were born strong, and have always been strong--they know nothing about being weak. Allowing their "basic animal instincts" to control their actions, those who are strong want only to dominate those who are weak. They know nothing about how it feels to be weak, or have their feelings hurt as deeply as those that fall into the weak category--they honestly don't know, they're "ignorant" to it. They see being nice as a display of submissiveness to their dominance, and "most" of the time, they are correct.

Now, we have that out of the way we can move on to the second, and the most important, part of the answer. People who are weak or strong--may not remain that way. It's the experience of those changes, and the choices you make, once you have lost or gained that power over others. That is what defines the type of person you are inside.

"The 3 Paths of Humanity"

- The Path of Resignation -

Those who are weak, who allow their bitterness to betray them into becoming something they once feared (someone who takes advantage of the weak) become part of the problem and betray those who were like them, and themselves. Their bitterness will remain and they will become hollow. In my opinion, these people deserve our utmost pity. Those that walk this path will be the unhappiest and unfulfilled of them all.

To add, people who are strong, but are humbled to weakness, but return to power, only to act as they once did, also walk this path.

- The Path of Ignorance -

Put simply, those who are born weak or strong, remain just as they were throughout their lives. This path could be a blessing or a curse depending on the type of person you are inside. A blessing if given the chance to change, you would fall to the Path of Resignation. But, a curse if you would rise to the last of the three paths--the "Path of Ascension."

- The Path of Ascension -

Is the most difficult of all three paths, but the most rewarding. This is the path where you will find "true" nice people. Who actually care and want to help you, and do not use being nice as a shield, but as signs of compassion and consideration. They are not dominated by others, nor do they dominate. Someone born weak, who chooses to face their fears inside them, better themselves, and grow confidence through their actions without stepping on others, will one day discover they are no longer weak, but strong.

They never forget how it felt to be weak, and instead of choosing to dominate those that are weak, they relish the opportunity to help them become strong, as they did. They want the weak to share in their victory, even if it means that the person in question may become stronger than them. In fact, this only strengthens their resolve to help that person. Those who are born strong, but humbled to weakness, and climb back as stated above, also walk this path.

The Path of Ascension is the most difficult for several reasons, and to list them all would fill a short story novel, so I will just list a few. The first is the most obvious, but hardest to accept, those who walk this path are presently in the extreme minority. It can be a very lonely path. The second, it requires you to push aside selfish emotions, such as pride, anger, depression, and put forgiveness ahead, which is essential when trying to better yourself. It's easier said then done, and takes most people, who try, several years of self reflection to achieve.

And third. You will find yourself, more often than not, fighting hard battles because you choose to stand up for what you believe in, instead of giving in to others. And, as I stated before, you and your beliefs are in the extreme minority. Now you are probably thinking, why would I want to put myself through that. The answer is simple. The rewards you gain from this path, the joys, the fulfillment, are incredibly intense, and much more numerous when compared to those who walk the other two.

Those who walk the other paths cannot even imagine how intense it is--you cannot imagine until you are there. This is the only path of achieving true happiness, and more importantly, you will bring true happiness to others around you. In the end, you will be incredibly thankful you chose the hardest path of them all....

I wanted to add something in regards to what you said in your question, "this day in age," as I stated, it's always been this way. What you are noticing; however, is a population shift. In the past, people mostly fell into the paths of "Ignorance" or "Ascension." But now, the highest populated path is the "Path of Resignation." More and more people, who know what it's like to be victimized, are choosing to give in and victimize others.

They choose to give in, instead of choosing to be strong and put a stop to it. It's this cowardly selfishness that has swelled in the past 20 years, and it's really tragic--for those people, not for you, and not for anyone who chooses to better themselves. They are the ones who are truly weak, and they know it.

To close, always remember, you can only grow through experiences of weakness and strength, never just one. It's okay to be afraid sometimes, as long as you face your fears, and it's okay to be strong, as long as you never forget what it felt like to be afraid. Now you know why people who are nice have it hardest...or do they really?

Thank you for your question.

Yours,

Michael Halding

Bing fucking O!

Excellent post.  This is also why most people bow down before their god.
