No fear of dying
    #17138699 -

Lots of people I talk to are afraid of dying. I do not have that. During my years of taking psychedelics I have developed what you might call a mild curiosity about it. Not a curiosity I would like to settle before another 70 years of life or so.

But a curiosity it is. I wonder if it will be the ultimate trip or just a fading into darkness. For some reason I think it will be like the start of a level 5 Salvia experience I had, just the world fractalling into nothingness.

I hope that when the time comes I can face it like a man, with quiet dignity.

I have experienced ego death twice and there were some times out surfing that I thought that would be my last day, but no, other than that nothing like thinking I had cancer.

I think it's probably a transition into something else.  But yeah there's definitely no reason to fear the inevitable.

I think it is too reductionist to suggest that everything just ends, especially when one considers the fact that the psyche, in partial at least, is quite clearly not confined to time and space.

Psychedelics experience proves exactly that. In my opinion any way.

Western thought of death is always interesting to me
Heaven awaits you, but no one seems to be in a hurry to get there!
The idea of death or avoiding death is just so 'what if' not 'now'
Live in the moment...

I am with you... I don't fear death...'taxes' yes, but not death.  What happens after I die, do I become carbon and be recycled or reach a new plane or burn in hell or come back as a mushroom? All sounds trippy ...

What will come my way, I shall face and move through it. Smile.

Peace

Only thing about death that I fear is the loss of the nature of this reality. I enjoy the limitations and boundaries.

To fear the unknown seems to be an inherently natural thing in Human Consciousness..
But to face those fears, with courage also seems to sprout quite spontaneously as well in Human Nature..

Do not have what? An expression of sharing your fear of dying with others?
Without actually facing your true death, depending upon your awareness of it and how it happens, you may indeed show signs of fear, but still have the courage to face them, and accept that you are going to die- To accept you are going to die.. does that really remove any fear? What is fear? Isnt it fundamentally based upon an attachment.. if you arent interested in dieing for another 70 years, then isnt that because you have something you are afraid to lose.. Because death perhaps feels like something where you may lose things... But that is the thing- we don't know what death is... and standing upon the precipice of the unknown, is standing upon the precipice of Discovery, which has a sense of Intensity to it- and it can be looked at as Anxiety (fear based) or Excitement (Joy based) but inherently, they both are stem from the same essence... And will you ever really want to give either one up entirely? If you did, wouldn't you eventually lose touch of what the difference is? sounds kinda boring.. imo...

this says to me, that you know you are afraid, and you are pretty sure you're okay with that
Do you get what I mean>?

Change requires Adaptability.
Life, Survival, Death - If you want to survive, you must adapt..
It is also like s spring.. like a vortex... like a coil... Cyclical but ascending (or descending)
Life, Survival, Death, Life, Survival, Death, Life, Survival, Death, Continuum..

Yes I get your point!

I am attached to my life, it is the only one I have. There are things I want to experience that I am pretty sure I will not be able to do after I die. Looking forward to death is not something that I consider normal behaviour for a young and healthy individual.

It is just that the thought of death does not fill me with the same horror as it seems to do most other people (who are not trippers).

Anyway what I guess I am trying to say is that the use of psychedelics in a way 'prepares' you for the ultimate experience of letting go. Or at least it has given me the impression that it does so.

Awesomeness :mushroom2:
I personally enjoy how Terrence stated it- Psychedelia is for Boundary Disillusion- Not only will it dissolve boundaries between you and your cat, but it will dissolve boundaries between you and your washing machine XD

Edit- I'm aware that I'm most likely going to die someday.. This One Self, and things are going to change probably beyond what I can imagine- whether it's nothing or just something else...

either way how can I hope to really prepare for it? So with that in mind, I can become as comfortable as I can in the uncertainty ;D

If psyche is part of brain it is confined to time and space, and not only that. Psychedelics can alter world perception but that doesn't make you immortal.
Humans are hardwired for religion, hope and need to survive, belief in afterlife fulfills that. Be careful about such beliefs and better have current life as best possible.
Although if according most popular view that mind can explained as certain arrangement of electric currents or chemical reactions if they are replicated precisely or enough so than, logically mind and consciousness should be possible to resurrect.

Personally I lost partially fear of death after mushrooms and also hard life. When you realize how incredibly small and temporal you are, how you can easily die, when cultural programmed person reduced to instinctive biomachine, realize how meaninglessness and indifferent nature it's much easier cope with fear of death. There is only regret of fun you will miss.

There is this idea I think among psychedelic users that ego death is a similar experience to biological death but... it is still an experience. Like any experience your brain has, it is ultimately a biological phenomenon. What we're talking about with actual death is an end to all experience. Not only do you not exist anymore, your brain isn't even around to witness you not existing, like it is when you trip your way to ego death. It isn't the non-existence of self that frightens me, it's the absence of any experience at all.

There are millions of replicas of yourself thorough out the universe , right before death or when near death experience is approaching , you jump in a new universe exactly like the one you were just at..... This explains why everyone happens to experience near death experiences but never DEATH...    Because it does not exist....    I probraly died while I spun my car out going 90 mph in the grass and slid sideways for a good 200 or 300 yards.. Perhaps more when the car finally stopped I looked up back at the hill road where I started spinning , all the cars had stopped and let me tell you... Boy were they far.

The date this thread was first posted is funny. It's right around the time I almost actually died and entirely lost my fear of death.

I agree and disagree with this.

I strongly agree that both ego death and physical death are biological processes even ego death because it's the dissolving of a biological filter but when you achieve ego death you still have awareness. You have no memories and no more thoughts or even the ability to have thoughts but you still have awareness. So yes you can still witness things you're just not gonna have any identity or any thoughts or feelings.
