Consciousness is something, but where would it be without subconsciousness? That term refers to everything which isn't presently conscious, that doesn't normally operate on the conscious level, yet is accessible to the conscious mind. This as opposed to unconscious processes, which are mental processes we have no capacity of becoming aware of.
