You could take the very same argument, that welfare spending is destroying us and apply it to military spending.  Our spending and the worlds spending is around 1.8 tril. Or  100 s of times the World health organizations budget,a 100 times the US centers for disease control's budget, and bill gates world health initiative. Shockingly more than all of this combined. Our own makes up about 46 % of this.
As long as were pumping massive amounts of cash into stuff that destroys life rather than at the very least spending a smidget more on stuff aimed at improving life and health, especially for those most vulnerable, I say were gunna be fucked, really, properly fucked. This avenue has destroyed nations before and its destroying them now. Romney wants to increase military spending  , more planes more ships, and get even tougher than Obama. Were going to need at least a 3% tax increase to keep kickin ass, or increase the suffering of our own impoverished citizens .

Thats cool  I wasnt talking you anyway:) Did I word something improperly? Lets change that to domestic social spending. How can anyone claim to be the party of smaller govt, less spending and turn around and say more military, more toys ,more conflict? How is this the road to prosperity?

People can say whatever they want.  Republicans haven't been about smaller federal government in decades.  Democrats and republicans both want big government and big spending.  The only difference between them is what they want to spend on.

No shit Sherlock. Look at all the republican states right now. Look at how they are doing. Their unemployment is just as bad as democrat controlled states. Look at thinly populated states like Idaho and Wyoming, full of agriculture and mining. Theyre facing more lay offs then ever

Even that debate is over a few percentage points.  Both parties seem perfectly fine spending more than we take in.  Both are fine with taxing the shit out of the american people...The difference becomes less and less each year.

For the nth time, you never have provided those statistics, neither in other threads nor in the previous post. I'm guessing that it's around 50-50, not more than 60-40 one way or the other... if so, then I don't anticipate that you ever will provide a source.

I did it before but I'll do it again.  Are you really going to argue that you read all my posts?  Every one?

http://super-economy.blogspot.com/2012/02/do-welfare-recipients-mostly-vote.html

Quote:
Hardly surprising, we see that in a two-party split, 60-80% of welfare recipients are Democrats, while full time Workers are evenly divided between parties.

You have similar results in this recent NPR-Poll. Among the Long Term Unemployed, 72% of the two-party support goes to Democrats.

It appears that once more common sense is right and the impression left by the New York Times wrong. Indeed, people who live off the government disproportionally support Democrats.

Given that Krugman is aware of the Gellman-Paradox, he should have reported the individual level data first instead of wasting everyone’s time with state-level aggregation that we already know is wrong.

Quote:
No. I said total military expenditures, which are greater than either SS or Medicare. Just because bureaucrats like to position them in several different places in the budget is irrelevant (e.g. supplemental funding for wars, VA & college tuition, nuclear arsenal w/DoE, CIA drone operations, financing the debt incurred from previous unfunded military spending).

My link cites "Defense and international security assistance" as less than SS or Medicare/Medicaid.  That includes:

Quote:
Defense and international security assistance: In 2011, 20 percent of the budget, or $718 billion, paid for defense and security-related international activities. The bulk of the spending in this category reflects the underlying costs of the Department of Defense and other security-related activities. The total also includes the cost of supporting operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, funding for which totaled $159 billion in 2011.

The only thing I can see that might be in another item is VA benefits, which are also entitlement programs just like soc sec and medicare, not a cost of defense.
Quote:
What's even more irrelevant is you bringing up those two programs given that Romney was referring to income taxes w/his 47% statement (the figures drop down to less than 20% for people not paying into those). Of course you want to shift away from that, though, because a) you know my first paragraph is most likely true and b) you know that my previous point about the breakdown of where income taxes go is also correct.

Since the 1960s FICA taxes have been thrown in the general fund.  You cannot split out where any receipt goes because money is fungible.
Quote:
P.S. To suggest that a demographic other than social conservatives favor the most aggressive (and by far the most costly) prohibition policies, while not providing any evidence, is characteristic of your stupid habit of thinking that every opinion you have is correct, w/o support to your claims, even when a mountain of data contradicts it.

What more evidence do you want than Obama's war on medical MJ?  Or Bloomburgs war on soda and trans fats?  I have my opinions because I think they are correct.  I don't think my opinions are correct because I have them.  And I provide more support for my claims than just about anybody else here, not the least of which is you.
Quote:
P.P.S. Again, do you have any evidence to support your claim that blue states are wealthier bc of a minority of GOPers in them while red states are poorer bc of the minority of Democrats in them.

I don't believe I have ever made that causality claim.  I'm going to repeat something that the learned gentleman in my link pointed out.  Staes don't vote, people do.

To say, as Romney did, that 100% of that 47% will vote for Obummer is so beyond the pale of stupid words can't properly describe it.

You're walking talking   No demographic has 100% turnout but of those 47% who will vote Romney is right, he won't get shit.
Quote:
I'd love to see conservative welfare recipients (yes, federal spending on infrastructure and schools go, on the net, from wealthier and more populated blue states, to d.c., and then to poorer and less densely populated red states) substantiate the claim when they are in states that benefit from "socialism". Have you ever heard a single GOPer call for a law saying that over the course of years money paid in to d.c. by state has to equal money received,  within like a few pennies? Probably never will.

You keep conflating states with people.  Which is ridiculous.

I think it would be stupid to allocate federal funding for legit projects, like defense spending, on the basis of how much taxes are paid by a state.  Why would we want to pay Manhattan rents for something that can be done in Peoria?  I got a better idea.  Let each state fund it's own crap with it's own revenues and leave only the most clearly national responsibilities to the feds.  National defense, FBI, Interstate highways ONLY, Treasury, some few regulatory agencies.  There should not be a federal DoE, for instance

I'm not convinced we should have an FBI like we do now, either.  I don't see the point of having as many federal criminal statutes anyway.

In 2010, influenced by the Tea Party and its focus on fiscal issues, 17 states elected Republican governors. And, according to an Examiner.com analysis, every one of those states saw a drop in their unemployment rates since January of 2011. Furthermore, the average drop in the unemployment rate in these states was 1.35%, compared to the national decline of .9%, which means, according to the analysis, that the job market in these Republican states is improving 50% faster than the national rate.

I don't either but there does need to be a federal clearinghouse type law enforcement.  ATF, on the other hand, is a complete fucking joke.  As is the DEA

Wait, if the camera was accidentally turned off, and then turned back on again when someone realized, why would that entail its having moved?  You can turn most cameras on and off just by lightly touching a button.  The person recording would of course not want to move the camera, to keep the coherency of the production.  I think this is a weird grasping-at-straws conspiracy thing, unless I'm missing something.  I doubt Romney said anything profound in the interim.

That said, I wouldn't automatically put Mother Jones beyond tampering.  I just don't see solid evidence for it in this case.

Really?  Perfectly in the same the spot?  A little clandestine camera?  It is illegal to make an audio recording of people in Florida without their permission.  I personally don't think Mother Jones did the tampering.  I think Jimmy Carter's grandson did.

Again, all that is involved with turning a camera on or off is lightly touching a little button.  Or flipping a little switch.  Not something that requires the camera to move at all.
