Knowing nothing
    #16757823 -

...is a very satisfying state.

To want to know more is to presume to know there is more to know.

"You know that you know nothing." - Maharshi

As intellectuals, what are we to make of this? Especially if we are an intellectual aware of the power of imagination?

Is it about losing and not gaining?

Hmm yes, I much prefer this idea actually:

"Distracted as we are by various thoughts, if we would continually contemplate the Self, which is Itself God, this single thought would in due course replace all distraction and would itself ultimately vanish. The pure Consciousness that alone finally remains is God. This is Liberation."

There's heaps of stuff to know, that is relevant within it's conceptual framework such as science. But most mysticism and such is bent towards "undoing" your knowing of the world. I think it's largely aiming to deprogram you from what society forced on you since a young age to see what's really there.

Man this is my biggest nerdy weakness. I'm so glad I never actually bought my own cards cause this shit was addictive. Friends had fucking tons and would let me build my own decks. Game was such a blast as long as you had somewhat equal decks.

xD yeah man, it's a trap.
Glad i didn't fall for it either.

on topic: hey, do you remember the Never ending story movie, where all of the world is being destroyed by the big nothing, which was the force of collective mind forgetting everything? Interesting symbolism there...

As intellectuals, what are we to make of this?

A man asked the Maharshi to say something to him. When asked what he wanted to know, he said that he knew nothing and wanted to hear something from the Maharshi.

M.: You know that you know nothing. Find out that knowledge. That is liberation (mukti).

'You KNOW that you know nothing, find out that knowledge'

Its like saying know the Knower, as the one that can 'know' or 'not know' must preceed knowing or not knowing
Knowing/knowledge come after the existence of the knower, so he's saying to know that existence which preceeds objective/tangible knowledge
Know yourself (awareness/subject) that is prior to knowledge (of things/objects)
Know your existence prior to thoughts

Thats my intellectual making of it

The way i define 'power' (in the context of Awakening) imagination is not truly powerful, like everything else it derives its power from somewhere else
Manifestations of the Source are not truly 'powerful' as they are illusions, you can say the imagination is powerful as it creates this whole illusory universe, but the thought it is powerful, or the thought it even exists at all itself is imagination! Not real

Imagination means not-real, can, or should something unreal be considered 'powerful'?
Only that which endures can be said to be truly powerful, if you consider something temporary powerful it will appear/feel that way to you & hold influence over your identity

Ramana also said it is impossible to Awaken to the Truth while considering the world (creation) real

The thing its though, mysticism never produced a jet ski, or an iphone; science did that.

A lack of friendliness and openness causes great confusion for me. I tend to shut off, due to thought processes distracting me. I think I'm going to find something by being passive and observing, but what I'm looking for is an act: the act of living out my personality. How is it possible to express oneself if one is not friendly? Plus, nothing makes sense in a sour mood. Why why why do I not learn is beyond me!

Ive had the same issue of not  being able to be myself, not knowing how to live out my personality, a good thing about it is that i found its not possible, i dont feel like i have an individual personality that is me, in the past i wouldve thought its a bad thing & felt really uncomfortable with myself, now i remember that its a good thing because it presents the opportunity to remember the existence that lies beyond the idea of existing as an individual. You dont have to carry the burden of becoming yourself its already happening

Today i  was driving to my sisters and drove past some random guy & just suddenly felt really sensitive to him for some reason i then thought about you i think he maybe lookd a little like you or maybe had a similar energy, i dont know why im mentionng it but  felt to

I feel people are most friendly when their individual defenses are down & sensitive to other people, but being sensitive to people doesnt necessarily always mean a 'friendly' response, your sensitive to all needs not just your own

Being nicer friendly really does come for me when im not thinking about how to be how i should be or how i could be, its a natural aspect of just Being

I've found it's good to be open and honest, but don't ever give away too much information that people you don't trust could use against you. It's good to be friendly for efficiency (you once said that ) but real friendships can never be forced. It's efficient because people will generally like you, even if they are just aquantencies (sp) and you will create no new karma, no new people disliking you.
People express themselves all kinds of ways besides friendliness, and I reject acting like them all - anger, distrust, aloofness, intimidating, manly, womanly, and so on. And honesty is good because it means you're also being true to yourself, which is incredibly important I've found. Most people I talk to, I can see when they're lying by the looks in their eyes and body language, like they are trying to lie to themselves to prop up their own ego.

The more I identify as clueless, dellusional and incompetent, I dare not say.

Anything is believable, un-belief is belief, I am permanently at the mercy of one hypnosis or another. If the opposite is also true, how can there be lies?

Correlation and Irony leading to laughter and pleasant apathy.

It's just pointing out the point that our perceptions are limited. Unsure what you mean when you say 'is it about losing and not gaining?' Our minds just take in information and sort it. Sometimes our minds will loose knowledge, usually inconsequential stuff, other times we will learn stuff. At this age (from your pictures I assume you are in your 20s, like me) we will be gaining a lot of information, or at least we should because our brains are running at peak performance. They'll start to decay soon, so learn as much fun facts as you can now.

You know what I find sad?  That people such as yourself, that have actually come to use your mind in a semi- healthy-rational way, come also often to despair and suffering.:heart:
