I was wondering who he was; i've read so many quotes that he has made. Sounds pretty knowledge to me through his words; that's all i know about him.

Ive wondered how he lives too.
Does he really keep true to his supposed "enlightened" state of mind?
His books make perfect sense, but you can easily right a book about enlightenment and gives perfect details without being enlightened.

and everyone elses opinion, of course Tolles words ring true, but he's becomming a bit of a traveling spiritual circus. There's even cheezy portriats of him that u can purchase via his web site...seems to be marketing his own worship...

Why would anyone claim to be enlightened except as a marketing ploy? It is not something testable nor measurable. That makes me highly suspect right there. Why not let your actions speak for themselves?
To give a well-thought out response I will have to do some research, but if I remember correctly; aren't devotees supposed to visualize him in their meditations when seeking guidance?
If God exists, then we all have the key within us. If he does not exist then worshipping another human being buys you nothing. Either way, I will put no man before me.
A good coach in ANY field will teach you to stand ON YOUR OWN not be dependent.

>Why would anyone claim to be enlightened except as a marketing ploy? good point, but perhaps he feels the need to "help" the world with his experience - it could be a genuine desire to do good, u have to be willing to consider that possibility
>It is not something testable nor measurable. true
>Why not let your actions speak for themselves? exactly. That's why I wonder what his actions/lifestyle is when he's not propounding Truths...
>To give a well-thought out response I will have to do some research Thanks
>but if I remember correctly; aren't devotees supposed to visualize him in their >meditations when seeking guidance? To be honest, I never heard that before. My understanding is that he ascribes to the no-mind, no-thought, here & now, present moment awareness philosophy.
>If God exists, then we all have the key within us. If he does not exist then >worshipping another human being buys you nothing. Either way, I will put no man >before me. agreed worshiping another aint the way to go, but learning from others is a good idea, as I think u'd agree. I'll explain a bit more here about why I'm curious about some of these "enlightened" masters. If your seeking a better way of life/more understanding/ less suffering, and someone claims that YES indeed there IS a way, then u expect to witness some of this peace in their being. If u see them indulging and suffering, then it detracts considerably from the message.
>A good coach in ANY field will teach you to stand ON YOUR OWN not be >dependent. I think he claims to try to do this.

My apologies one and all. I confused Eckhart with Sri Harold Klemp The Mahanta, the Living ECK Master of the Eckankar religion.

From his web page bio:
Eckhart Tolle
Eckhart Tolle is emerging as one of the most original and inspiring spiritual teachers of our time. Eckhart, who is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition, but excludes none, travels and teaches throughout the world. His profound yet simple and practical teachings have helped thousands of people find inner peace and greater fulfillment in their lives.
I love when someone writes about themselves in the third person to give it more validity. Reminds me of FoxNews' slogan, "Fair and balanced reporting" which if indeed it was, there would be no need for such a self-righteous pat-on-the-back.
I am going to put this on my web page:
Swami
Swami is emerging as one of the most original and inspiring spiritual teachers of our time. Swami, who is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition, but excludes none, travels and teaches throughout the world. Then you will know for sure that I am the "real deal".

Tolle has so transcended his ego, that he sells pictures of his plain visage with cat on shoulder for only $5 for a 5" X 7" glossy. I guess he is trying to en-lighten my wallet.

yeah, I was very dissapointed when I saw those pics a while ago and even mentioned them in this post and a previous post... but it could always be the publisher trying to make money off of Eckhart. Then again, maybe it's Eckhart's idea but he's using the money for a worthy cause... it's all speculation, but I agree that the pics were a bit too much. I don't think I would want people to by framed pics of myself if I ever "Realized True Being", but then again I'm not enlightened.

Money and Fame = Power, and power seems always to corrupt. I gotta say that I really enjoy listening to 'The Power of Now' on tape, and I read the book. Tolle really has a gift for directing one back to the here and now, while one reads/listens to his words. The message is not original, but its elaboration is, and his concept of the "pain body" has practical and even clinical usefulness.
As to the self-exploitation - that is reprehensible. What - the book hasn't made him enough money, and he doesn't charge hundreds of dollars for attendance at a seminar? He is subject to the usual corruption, but he DID have something valuable to say in his book/tapes. Bottom line: the best of Tolle can be had for the price of his book, and I picked up a clean used copy for 5 bucks. It is BE HERE NOW in essence, 30 years later, but notice how BHN stressed the word "BE" and how Tolle stressed the word "Power." Power always corrupts.

Power always swells the ego So the ego would have to be chained

I really think "The Beast" referred to in Revelations IS the ego, and that peace WOULD reign for a thousand years if the ego were chained.
As Adamist pointed out, the ego serves primarily for survival, it is the parent of fear. It is a scary thought to consider the selfless sacrifice capable of egoless beings, therefore the ego probably has to exist in order to preserve the species.

Oh man... i totally confused him for someone else. I was thinking he was the same person as Meister Eckhart, boy i was wrong... this guy lived in 1260, a great Christian mystic. Ok, well just had to clear that up.
