Mahatma brown rice, or organic brf?

My friend couldn't find any organic brown rice flour so he ground Mahatma brown rice with a coffee grinder and used that instead. He hasn't innoculated yet and has since found some 'real' organic brown rice flour. Mahatma doesn't make any mention as to preservatives or other additives on its package. Should he redo the substrate with organic brf and sterilize again or just use the other stuff? This is his first time growing so he's pretty much clueless if it even matters.

I used Mahatma and had no problems.

/me uses ONLY Mahatma as that was the first he used and it worked. /me doesn't mess with success.

Many people find that home ground rice performs better than purchased flour.

Regardless, mahatmas is much cheaper and works excellently.

Never used anything except mahatmas+bean grinder. Works perfectly well. :wink: Never tried organic brf flour, but from what I hear, it's better to grind ur own. Not sure though, flour probably woudl work just as well.

At www.mycosupply.com organic BRF is $10 for 10 lbs. That was enough for afoaf to do almost 70 pint jars. It is heavy, so shipping is a little high, but it's not too bad. I'm sure you can get it cheaper, but afoaf bought around a years worth of supplies, so shipping wasn't too taxing.

any whole grain brown rice should do ...personally i get the wally world mahatma...works great
