Brown Rice to BRF
    #1654573 - 06/22/03 10:17 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

I tried to make BRF in my blinder and ended up with this.

In the rear is the shell off the brown rice. The rice it the front is white now. The rice did not grind down small enough so I separated the two thinking I would use only the BRF.
Should I go ahead with that plan or try to grind more of the whiter rice and mix the two?

I read that some like their BRF chunky. Does it colonize faster?
I'll one day try the finer shell(skin) from the rice compared to the regular BRF. But for now I took a third of the chunkier white rice and mixed it with the finer BRF.

I heard someone say that chunky BRF retains more water and results in faster colonization.

well if you want to get it finer use a coffee grinder the grind it to powder.they go for $10 cnd or so and yeah you were right it does not colonize faster that is why "PF" change the pf tek to brf and verm at frist all it was is full grian brown rice and the mycelium couldn't breath and spread good at all and it was too mushy and you couldn't see inside the jas aswell so he add verm to get it better air but it still had a hard time to spread with the mushy rice and it was still hard to see what was going on in the jar so he used a coffee grinder to crush it into powder and it worked real good so thats how the pf tek was born, but very small chunks maybe ok I can't really tell from the picture it may slow it down a lil bit but if you don't have the money for a coffee grinder just deal with it i would say.

actually, whole brown rice works well if you prepare it right. it colonizes fast and you can use less verm than with brf which = more nutrients.

these were grown on whole brown rice, cracked corn and verm

I didn't say but I am using the PF tek.
When I grinded the rice the shells were remove from it and I was left with white rice. Does the shell of the rice contain more nutrients then the whiter part of the rice? Of course I will use verm to keep it moist and from sticking.
