"But I disagree about honoring people who have contributed a lot merely because some small-minded people would get jealous. I never let the small minds set policy."

i agree with you. many people here deserve something to show their merit. originally, i thought that was what the mushroom rating was for, but it has been abused so much it is meaningless now. how do we decide who gets a special title and who doesn't? does the person with the most posts get the special title? or how about the person who has uploaded the most mushroom pics to the site? or should it be the people who have been here the longest? or maybe about the people that give the best advice? etc....how can this fairly work?

If i were president i'd be cool, i'd even give my speeches in normal clothes, for example the state of the union address; I'd dress casual.

" But I disagree about honoring people who have contributed a lot merely because some small-minded people would get jealous. I never let the small minds set policy.

my interpretation of that statement:

i think he is saying that many people("small minds") don't understand that it took a lot of hard work to transform the shroomery from what it was in the beginning into what it is today. those "small minds" haven't been around from day one and they take all the hard work that many users put into bettering this site for granted, so they, the small minds, should have no say in this matter.  who cares if they get jealous, if they don't appreciate all the work that has been done.

mm: correct me if i am wrong on the interpretation. i'll take no offense.

How would we decide who was worthy?

I don't know.  One idea would be to find a group of people that post primarily in the mushroom forums and have been here a while.  They would know the history and the ones responsible for building this place.

it's hard to tell who has been here for a while. people change names sometimes. for example, i've been here since 98 and have actually been posting since 99/00 not sure exactly, but now i'm a newb again.  :smirk:

this is a small problem, but it is just one of many that would surface if certain people were given any sort of higher status than other users. i personally would have no problem with some getting this higher status; many deserve it. i just think it would cause more problems than it would be worth.
all of us that have been around here a while know who is deserving of respect.

maybe admins should start handing out awards and place them on the users profile or something.

you have a good idea brewing in your head, but there are many problems and issues that need to be ironed out before going ahead with this.

I think it would be cool to have another level of user....post whore!

So other users would be aware of the whores and react to such postings accordingly rather than getttin all uptight and upset by misunderstanding the injection of a little humor by said post whore

I think it's a great idea, but take the subjectivity out of it by only using the "tag" for past administrators only. It should be used to acknowledge the service they have given to The Shroomery. I don't think that people like Thor and Anno should be blue like everyone else!
