It wouldn't surprise me to find out that ET's came down and played as gods.

Not in the least.

it would have been a lot cooler if they gave us a sister planet that was also inhabitable. I wish Venus was a viable option; looks so prettay

I think i've proven my second point. The christians in this thread haven't once told the atheists that they were wrong. They have though presented there reasoning on why they individually believe in a god. The atheists though have condemned and trolled them for their beliefs. essentially your doing what hardcore christians are know for, and thats persecuting others for their beliefs.

If i choose to believe my dog harley created the universe and i think she tells me to live a good life and to be good to others...how in the world does that hurt you personally or anyone else for that matter.

I think that is the true problem with the world today. People refusing to let others live the way they choose and to believe in what they want to regaurdless of what other people think of it.

If atheists were any better than christians or any other person of faith they wouldnt have trolled the thead. They proved they are just as intolerant as the problem they make fun of.

I think you're missing the point. What does it matter what he believes versus what you believe? Is he hurting you by having faith in God or something?

No, he's hurting himself. He's turning off his brain for a warm fuzzy feeling, and now he's likely to do that in other situations as well. Humans saved his wife, not god and he should give them credit. Faith is ignorance and we already have plenty of ignorant people running around.

I still fail to see how him believing in a God is hurting him. Hes alive and happy with his wife. What makes him worse off than you just because he believes in god. Purely hypothetical, what if the afterlife does come, is he still hurting himself then? Would you be the one who had hurt yourself by being so vehemently opposed to the idea of a creator?

Also: say the afterlife doesn't come, its just black or whatever afterward, did either of you hurt yourselves in the long run by believing in what you did? Its personal belief, who the fuck is anyone to try and 'shine the light' in anothers eyes, especially by calling them ignorant?

I think when a person looses touch with reality they should be reminded that that is what's going on. Now he's delusional b/c he doesn't understand how the doctors were able to save his wife.

If it doesn't matter to him he's free to ignore me. I just place a lot of value in not being at the mercy of my emotions and trying to see the reality of my world.

Don't forget this thread began with the title, "Proof God exists and why atheists can suck it," which hardly invites a neutral discussion. I also don't think there are many Christians in this thread. Especially on the Shroomery, people who believe in god aren't necessarily part of an organized religion.

Since the dawn of time religion has been at the heart of war, civil rights violations, torture, corruption and every other crime we're familiar with.

It's an enabler, the rest of the civilized world is snapping out of it and it's ok to be intolerant of something that has been overwhelmingly harmful to our species.

Here's my belief. There is a good. I prefer that he be a christian god. But im open to the idea that he or she may not be the god of my reliegion or that of anyone else's. Im 100% open to the idea that there is some guiding force in this thing of ours. I choose to worship a christian god because thats the one that makes the most sense to me and gives me the most comfort in my times of need.

with sweeping generalizations like that you should put some sources or your full of shit. Theres been a fair share of wars over religion but they do not make up even half of the reasons armed conflict occurs.

ninja edit to quote this "it's ok to be intolerant of something" i think this is why there are wars. your just straw manning religion you troll.

Obviously if that were true, something had to of occurred for god to be there in the first place.

Actually this doesn't disprove god. This just implies that a simple universe would have to exist before god could exist. In the big bang theory we infer that simpler larger systems had to occur before the singularity broke into enough small pieces, and discharged into the systems we have.

In the times before we had atoms we may have simply had positives and negatives swarming around each other in random patterns. This would be on a massive yet ultra fine scale. In an instant something unimaginably complex may have existed, and just as quickly disappeared.

In this ultra fine massive state something self preserving may have occurred. The first life if you will. Perhaps these first ever patterns left their legacy, on some scale.

I know it's cheesy, because it's been way over used; but going off of what you said:

"Once, a long time ago, there was a wise Zen master. People from far and near would seek his counsel and ask for his wisdom. Many would come and ask him to teach them, enlighten them in the way of Zen. He seldom turned any away.

One day an important man, a man used to command and obedience came to visit the master. “I have come today to ask you to teach me about Zen. Open my mind to enlightenment.” The tone of the important man’s voice was one used to getting his own way.

The Zen master smiled and said that they should discuss the matter over a cup of tea. When the tea was served the master poured his visitor a cup. He poured and he poured and the tea rose to the rim and began to spill over the table and finally onto the robes of the wealthy man. Finally the visitor shouted, “Enough. You are spilling the tea all over. Can’t you see the cup is full?”

The master stopped pouring and smiled at his guest. “You are like this tea cup, so full that nothing more can be added. Come back to me when the cup is empty. Come back to me with an empty mind."
