Hi,
I heard there are Liberty Caps to be found in the Pacific Northwest ??
I am near Seattle.. and wondering, what are the seasons for shroom hunting out here, and what varieties can I find.. where to look, etc ?
Thanks

Fall and early winter is about it for you PNWers. You might find some Pan subbs during the spring/summer, but you're better off waiting till fall, IMO.
Libs grow in sheep/cow/horse pastures from the ground, not directly from dung. Read the mushroom hunting FAQ, it has everything you need to know and then some

The liberty caps are a fall shroom growing mostly in tall rang k grasses in pasturelands of sheep and cattle. Not necessarily in hose pastures. But wuill appear in sheep and cattle pasturelands where there could be some horses. However, regardlewss of Panaolus subbalteatus int he spring and summer, we have P. stuntzii and P. fiemtaria which can grow all year long. This is anotehr mild witnber with no snow whatsoever int her Seattle region. And the spring rains have been going on now for about a week or longer with light mild rains. This is good for huntin the subbs at riding stables int he Pnw and at racetracks. The blue ringers mentioned abouve can be found in well manicured lawns in parks, fast food restaurants and offie buildings with lawns, along sidewalks through subburban areas and sometimes prolifaclly in the cities. mj Read Magic Mushrooms fo th PNW for good info on these shrooms. and go to my site, so sponsored by the Shroomery and read my field guide to learn about the PNW shrooms. I have over 2200 shroom photos of 55 species of which over 18 grow in the PNW region from Bandon Oregon to BC along the I-5 corridor and from the Cascades west to the Olympics http://www.mushroomjohn.com/species.htm mj

Jesus, everybody seems to refer me to the FAQ's and search engine..
What are the reasons for the forums then, since everything can be found in the FAQ's and search engines ?

MJ is something of a poor typist (forgive me MJ). he is refering to tyhe tall rank growing grasses with wich semilanceata mycelium ascociates.
-------------------- Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

concretefeet: Thank you for the clarification.. Jesus Christ I must have about 16 books to read because I have no idea by what you mean with "semilanceata mycelium associates"..
and I still don't know what 'rank growing grasses' are... I always thought grass was grass, I didn't know there was a 'rank' to it..
And to think, I thought this would be 'easy'
