First successfull CYANESCEN hunt in WASHINGTON STATE
    #2018385 -

Found lots of active mushrooms today (stunzii's, cyans, and some baeos). The baeos i found were right next to the cyans, and the baeo pins in the picture I had a hard time deciding whether the pins were baeos or cyans becuase they were growing so close together. I dunno if its beginers luck or what but I have been finding mushrooms like crazy and its my first season! I owe most of it to the shroomery, and the experienced members who have helped me along the way (u know who u are). Well here they are

Psilocybe cyanescens

Psilocybe baeocystis

Psilocybe stuntzii

Here is a cool image of some of the stunzii's I found. I wont bore with you with all the images of stunzii's I took hehe. Im sure youve seen plenty already =]

take a sporeprint, because i think they are cyans. that is, if they blued. my guess is wet cyans.

whole: did the suspect cyanescens cyanesce?

the ones in the first picture have an umbo, wich cyanescens do not. they look similar outwardly, but they look like they could be a Naematoloma [dispersum?] but i'm not sure at this point. print them [though a print won't help much to determine between Naematoloma and Pilocybe :frown:]. they could be other things aswell.

the ones in your second pic, although large, actualy look like odd, overmatured P. baeocystis.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

i assume the suspected stuntzii had an annulus?
they look like they could be C. filaris. i want you to give me a full description of them.

have you eat any of them. them?

not to scare you, i'm not sure what they are now, but i want to illiminate C. filaris as a possibility.

[edit: well, the caps look to be viscid, wich is a good sign. the margin is markedly striate wich is also a good sign]

things to include:
1.) spore print [most important, as this will rule out conocybe all together.]
2.) gill color, attachement and structure.
3.) stipe color.
4.) details of the annulus. is it movable on the stipe? is it colored by spore deposit?

one more thing: what where thye growing from exactly?

Your first top picture of P. cyanescens appears to me to be similar to P. zaurescens which have gotten old but they are not that short. However the Umbos look like P. azurescens umbos.
The 2nd P. cyanescens image resembles a cyan but the stem is meiniscent of a large baeocystis in woodchips whose caps opened up at the pleats causing them to turn up. I have seen them like that before and a few images are posted at my site showing the caps breaking into pedalled sections and turning up like cyanescens, and yes the bow-tie variety of p. cyanescens do have umbos but not the size of the ones in your picture at the o top of the post, But umbos are a characteristic of the genera. Also the twisted stem with its spiraling around vertical stem is common in the P. baeocystis, being pur white with a twisted vertival grooves and intense bluing which the stem is exhibiting.
. Although the upturned and wavy caps do resemble old weather worn wet P. cyanescnes caps.

mj

mj,
AS for the stuntzii,s that is hard to tell but I do not think they are.

PM me about that

MJ, thank you for that bit about the umbonate cyanescens. i've never seen [or heard of] that before.

though i'm sure the second pic is baeocystis, i'm still not sure the top pic is either of the two. i'd like to hear from whole9 regaurding them before i am willing to commit.

it is the suspected stuntzii i am worried about. i would really like to hear back from him on those, especialy as to wether he has ingested them.

Those are not cyanescens by any means. The 1st picture is of a specie that is not in the psilocybian family.
