im getting ready to clone some live tissue on agar. i planned on cleaning the stem with iso alcohol 70% but read somewhere that iodine is good for sterilizion too. Does anyone have a link or info?

Not necessary if you're cloning mushrooms you grew at home. Search RogerRabbit's posts under "iodine", he has a bunch of posts on using either iodine or diluted sodium hypochlorite (bleach) than rinsing the culture in sterile water. ~P~

thanks im just concerned because the tub that im taking the tissue from just started showing green its my only source of live tissue tho

alcohol and iodine do not sterilize anything.

you should split the stem and take a tissue sample from the inside which has never been exposed to air. thus being sterile.

thanks koolaid. I had already planned on doing a biopsy. Basically a variation of the 9er tek and I intended on just cleaning my stem up real good with 70% iso before I started disecting. Like i said my main concern was that my tub was starting to show early signs of trich, and I didn't wanna carry that over into the culture.
