these people meditate for insane amounts of time, and have much clearer perceptions than you or I

And if someone else "meditated for insane amounts of time" and came to the conclusions that reincarnation is bullshit, would you give up the idea?

My guess is no. Because people who buy into this shit only accept the pronouncements that jive with their pre-conclusions.

If God himself came to the Earth and stated that reincarnation is bullshit, he'd be run out of town by the people who follow "masters who are like 10000x your average intelligence".

I would take it much more seriously. But there aren't many spiritual masters out there who disregard reincarnation.  I have looked into quite a few of them.

You could at least respond to what i said.  I just typed up a whole damn theory there, and you're just gonna call it nonsense.

OK, I'll respond to that.

First, it's not a theory. Where did you study science?

Second, what you said reduces to "what if pink elephants fall from the sky?"

Gravity permeates the universe and connects every atom to every other atom. So does the EM field. For that matter so do the nuclear forces and quark confinement. So what? It makes no sense to state these features of the universe then jump to an unrelated pet conclusion that these things exist, therefore reincarnation.

You stated a physical process, entanglement, then jumped a giant chasm to a completely arbitrary conclusion.

Yes, entanglement might mean immortality, just like the tooth fairy might live in a nice condo on Venus.

But is that likely or reasonable or follow in any sort of rational way? No.

Edit: Oh, and for someone who claims to have "studied physics at college level" I'm a bit surprised you don't know what a theory is.

Selection bias.

No one who disagrees with your pre-conclusions do you consider a "spiritual master".

I meditated 30 minutes twice a day for 10 years and studied under Yogananda's direct disciple, Swami Kriyanda.

Can I now levitate and read minds and auras? Can I talk to angelic realms and astral travel? Can I peer beyond death?

No, but I can think critically.

But then again, I am not a 'true' meditator and studied under the 'wrong' Master.

In a way it's pretty amazing that people don't understand the basic idea of meditation, that this is the one and only thing that is supposed to lead to absolutely nothing, no powers, no money, no fame, no women, no good ideas, no nothing.:sun:

Quite on the contrary it's often all turned into some sort of megalomaniac ego fulfilment fantasy that's so crazy one should have thought it was something Hollywood came up with for some S.F. B movie.:crazy2:

If you can make anyone stop entertaining those illusions then you will have accomplished something very worth while.

Horrible indeed, but sitting there in the belief you're going to achieve something that way, is much more horrible: Self-deception. :crazy2:

The worst part is that if your belief is strong enough that you will achieve something, it could become self-fulfilling, and cause your mind to start thinking you already got sort of "enlightened" or whatever.

Yeah there is no goal during meditation except to for once do nothing! The point is to put everything down and simply be, this make it possible for your mind to slow down. The mind forgets about all the bullshit. This does have benifits though as now once you pick everything back up again you are refreshed and re-invigorated.

However it also depends on the type of meditation. You can meditate on particular subject matter so that your mind is so intensely engrossed that all things irrelevant are excluded from thought. This brings an increasingly deeper level of understanding of the concept at hand.

I think meditating on the emptiness is form, form is emptiness paradox (the heart sutra) can bring one closer to understanding the reality of rebirth. Also dependent origination is key.

"All things appear and disappear because of the concurrence of causes and conditions. Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else. "

No individual facts will make you believe in rebirth it requires having a new perspective on what already is, seeing the whole in a different way.

You have to see that reality is actually ONE thing. All things are within everything and everything is ONE thing.
