You have an ingrown nail.
Cut back the nail if possible. Disinfect and bandage.

If the infection progresses, go to the doctor.

Another suggestion is to disinfect, then stuff a piece of sterilized cotton inbetween the wound and the nail. Change out the piece of cotton daily.
I've never done this before, but it supposedly trains the nail to grow properly. :shrug:

Is your nail pointy where the 'cut' is?  That's a definite sign of an ingrown nail.  They're not as bad on fingers, but on your big toes they can be a bitch.  I had to have the left half of my right big toenail cut off because of one.  It just kept growing into the skin to the point where a blood filled bubble appeared and any time I tried to rip it off I'd wince in pain and bleed profusely.  That shit sucked.

I'm allergic to cats as well. If I rub my eyes they will get all itchy and my face will break out. After petting a cat I just go wash my hands off, or if I start breaking out I'll take a Benedryl. It sucks because I really like cats.

I remember the allergy test I had done.  The spots on my skin for dust and cat dander turned into 1" diameter hives.  :lol:

I used to be mildly allergic to cats but it seems to have faded. I also got the allergy test done as well. They had me lay down and they basically put this sheet of syringes over my back. I can't remember if they injected them one at a time or all at once.
Either way, I was pretty young and thought it was painful at the time. :emocry:

Mine looked like a 5"x3" pad of tiny little pins that were dipped in a solution of a given allergent.  They only went in a few mm I think.  It didn't hurt at all, but itched like hell.

I am scheduling an appointment soon with an allergist to figure out wtf is wrong with my sinuses(STILL!) and why I can't breathe correctly.

A different doc is saying she's positive it's allergies so fingers=crossed.

that isnt what id call a hangnail though. hangnails are like, a part of your nail on the side that folds up. like just a thin ass sliver of it. easy as hell to yank out.

unlike those little tabs of skin that lift up and simply peel back as if your finger was a fucking banana.

as to the people saying to cut the hangnails: man up and pull it out. its a good pain.
