e-:cig:s are the BEST way to quit smoking.
You get the satisfaction of smoking, with the ability to reduce your nicotine levels and wean you off. Not to mention you don't have the same risks for cancer that you get with regular cigarettes.

Granted, I still smoke my e-:cig: even after switching months ago, and sure, I'm still using nicotine which isn't the best. But it's infinitely better than smoking.

Also fuck e-cigs dude. Why replace a nicotine habit with a nicotine habit. Cold turkey dat shit.

Because:
1. You aren't poisoning yourself with 25 known carcinogens, tar, and carbon monoxide.

2. You can lower your nicotine level down gradually. I know many people (myself included), who have gone from 24mg/ml of nicotine, to 12 to 6 to 0. I'm at 6 now. YOU CONTROL THE LEVEL OF NICOTINE YOU GET. I have one friend that NEVER smoked in his life, and he vapes 0% nicotine juice just because he likes the flavors, it's like hookah without all the harmful shit.

3. You still get the satisfaction of exhaling a vapor and the oral fixation. For most people 80% of the addiction is the physical ritual of inhaling and exhaling smoke, or in this case vapor.

4. It is without any question, 1000x healthier than smoking cigarettes. The only remotely possible harmful thing in ecig juice is the nicotine, and not only are you getting a MUCH smaller amount of nicotine (read the links I posted earlier).. but nicotine in such small quantities is NOT harmful at all. It's not nicotine that kills you and gives you lung cancer. It's all the other carcinogens in cigarettes. Nicotine itself is rather benign and there is many studies which show it actually has medical and therapeutic benefits.

How many times have you quit smoking cold turkey? I did it 3 times. Was cig free for several weeks or months... always went back to smoking cigarettes.

Now they completely disgust me. After about 2 weeks of vaping I could no longer stand the taste or smell of cigarettes. I regained my sense of smell and taste, my cardio health improved drastically.

I smoked a pack to a pack and a half a day for 18 years.

Ecigs fucking work. A lot better than any other alternative method for quitting.

Yes cold turkey works too. But most hardcore smokers that I know who tried quitting cold turkey ended up smoking again.

Don't knock it, ecigs work and have a phenomenal success rate.

Quote:
Myth #2: E-cigarettes are bad for you because nicotine is bad for you. Therefore, they are not much different than tobacco smoke.

Fact: This is just plain wrong. While nicotine is very addictive, studies have shown its effects on the body to be minimal. The problem with traditional cigarettes is the additives, smoke and chemicals, not so much the nicotine.

Quote:
In 2000, a study performed at Stanford revealed surprising results about nicotine's effects on blood vessels. Contrary to popular opinion, the study showed that nicotine actually boosts the growth of new blood vessels. The discovery may lead to new treatments for diabetes. Many people with severe diabetes experience poor circulation, which can lead to gangrene and ultimately, limb amputation.

Researchers from the Scripps Research Institute published a study in 2002 that revealed a connection between nornicotine -- a chemical found in tobacco and also created when the body breaks down nicotine -- and a reduction of Alzheimer's symptoms. However, nornicotine is toxic, pointing to the need for a nontoxic substitute.

In 2006, Duke scientists found that people with depression who were treated with nicotine patches reported a decrease in their depressive feelings. The results were perhaps not surprising for a drug associated with imparting a "buzz." However, the research also showed a direct link between nicotine and an increase in the release of dopamine and serotonin, two vital neurotransmitters. A lack of dopamine or serotonin is a common cause of depression.

These studies point to potentially positive aspects of nicotine, but what can we do with this information? Surely people shouldn't start smoking for their health. Read on to find out about drug research associated with nicotine.

Nicotine is well known for being the chemical that causes you crave your next cigarette and, more ominously, makes it so hard to quit this deadly habit.

However, research has shown that it isn't the nicotine that kills you. It's the tar and the rat poison that does that. Nicotine in fact offers a range of health benefits that are quite beneficial to human functioning.

For starters, smokers have notably lower incidences of Alzheimer's disease than their non-smoking counterparts. Nicotine mimics the action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, a dearth of which is the main cause of this disease. It is believed that this effect could also help sufferers of other neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's, Tourette's, ADHD and schizophrenia. Even depression had been targeted as an area which nicotine could prove useful.

Read: Hubbly bubbly not a safe alternative to smoking

Diabetes is another area where nicotine offers potential transformative effects. The chemical has been shown to improve the growth and health of blood vessels. Diabetics often struggle with blood flow to their extremities and medical scientists are trialling a nicotine-based gel to combat this.

A 2012 study published in Neurology Today highlighted the cognitive benefits of nicotine which included memory, attention and psychomotor speed. In particular, short-term memory was boosted substantially by the presence of nicotine allowing subjects a greater degree of recall. These findings have led some researchers to call for the offering of a low-dose, slow-release nicotine patch similar to those used to help smokers quit. However, there has yet to be enough long-term clinical data to determine what the lasting effects of this idea might be.

While the traditional problem with nicotine has been its delivery method, the development of gels and patches means that nicotine could soon be shaking off its negative image and being used a potent force for good.

Does cancer really stop you from quitting?

Get a gf who is allergic to tobacco smoke. Problem solved

Pray to God, Have a strong desire to quit

Keep that willpower, keep praying to God, and try your best not to think about them.

When you want to smoke try your best to think of something else and keep yourself busy.

E-cigs are great because you can get 0nic liquid for that fix. The hardest part is quiting that morning smoke. I plan on getting another e-cig cause it really worked for me. getting one tank to taper with, and getting one for 0mg nic for when i feel like chain vaping.

I'm almost a month in cold turkey. Call me crazy, but I'm wary of the ecigarette and it's just the beginning of the robot takeover.

Oh yeah, I like what Shiversblood posted about cats smelling the ecig, they do! And I just read some news article that a dad was smoking it in his car and the kid starts getting a raspy voice! And the wife woke up with a cough when he smoked it while she slept WTF!?!

Why do you say that? Personal experience? Tons of research? I challenge your notion.

cold turkey is the best way, but the majority of people who try to quit cold turkey, start smoking cigarettes again.

I quit smoking cigarettes (18 years of smoking) with an ecig. I've probably turned on 20-30 people to ecigs in order to quit smoking - every SINGLE ONE OF THEM has quit successfully. 100% success rate.

Why do you say they are a BAD way to quit? In my opinion they are the best way. And even if you keep vaping an ecig, it's not harmful to your health.

Propylene Glycol is a powerful ANTI-VIRAL and is actually healthy for your lungs, which is why it has been used in hospitals ventilation systems for over 70 years.

Quote:
Propylene glycol is used in air sanitization and hard surface disinfection and dipropylene glycol is used in air sanitization."

"Propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol were first registered in 1950 and 1959, respectively, by the FDA for use in hospitals as air disinfectants."

Ecigs save lives.
I would like to hear why you think they are "bad"

i dunno if ecigs are completely harmless, granted they are a million times less harmful than cigs but still there are other things to kind of consider

http://www.iflscience.com/health-and-medicine/studies-reveal-health-risks-e-cigarettes

Quote:
Higher end models of e-cigs allow the user to adjust the voltage from the battery, which regulates the intensity of the heating element. As the solution gets hotter, it intensifies the effect of the nicotine hit. Unfortunately, these higher temperatures also affect the glycerin and propylene glycol used as solvents within the e-liquid, converting them to carbonyls found in cigarettes such as formaldehyde and acetaldehyde.

Earlier this year, a study found that increasing an e-cig’s voltage from 3.2V to 4.8V while using an e-liquid with both solvents produced almost as much formaldehyde as a traditional cigarette. While the human body produces formaldehyde as a byproduct of normal metabolic activity in the cells, it is suspected of being carcinogenic when inhaled. The same study also found that at lower voltages, e-cigs produced up to 800 times less formaldehyde than a cigarette. While this might sound a lot safer, the size of the vapor particles and the delivery method into the lungs heavily impact the risk of disease.

Particles found in inhaled cigarette smoke have a median size of 0.3-0.5 microns. Testing has found that the e-cigarette particles have a median of 0.18-0.27 microns. About 40% of these particles can travel deep into the lungs and become embedded in the alveoli, where gas exchange occurs. Even if the particle itself isn’t toxic, the size alone places a burden on the lungs and can cause disease.

also, you basically just listed contradicting information, that nicotine is NOT toxic and that it ultimately is

if it metabolizes into nornicotine, and that is toxic... then nicotine is probably best not taken in right ?

also if i am not mistaken, nicotine is also an MAOI which would further explain along with the dopamine release, it's effect on depression.

i'd rather just not put nicotine into my body anymore. i am getting better as long as i stay away from smokers. eventually i should be able to get to a point where i can resist urges, but it will mean quitting heavy drinking... that's how i relapsed after one year.

i dont think nicotine is an maoi, but another alkaloid that is in tobacco is. Tobacco has more than just nicotine.

E-cigs are merely a substitute in my experience. Everyone I know who has started e-cigs is still on them or picked smoking back up or goes back and forth. For me when I get down to 8mg nic I start having hardcore cravings and have to bump back up before I go buy a pack. Just my experience though.

Congrats to all who are quitting or have quit.

I quit about 29 days ago.. well actually I had a "slight" relapse.

I ended up having to walk 5 miles for nothing, then some black dude comes out of nowhere and tells me I look like I'm "on something" and asks if I want a cigarette.

Knowing I had to walk yet another 5 miles back to the original location, I took the smoke.

Haven't had one since though.

I quit coffee about a week ago because it is a gateway drug for me. As soon as I take a sip, it's like I'm dying for a smoke. So fuck that shit. It makes me hungry, shaky and like I'm about to have a diabetic attack and pass out or some shit.

Then I eat a fuckton of food. I also read that coffee hinders absorbtion of nutrients/vitamins, which would make sense because I used to have to take a shit after having coffee, which sounds like it was making incompletely digested food be excreted, resulting in loss of nutrients/vitamins. The same thing happened after I drank a diet dr pepper the other night.

I ate 5 chicken tenderloins (22g protein per 4 oz) and followed it with the diet dr pepper and had that same weird hungry shaky feeling about 30 to 45 minutes later and had to eat again. So I've cut coffee and soda out of my diet because that shit is bad. I've felt pretty good since then.

edit: forgot to say that my e-cig is about 50% responsible for me quitting cigarettes. Me being dedicated, working out, green tea, healthy food, quitting coffee is the other 50%
