herbal, over the counter remedies for anxiety

High all,
I havnt been diagnosed with anxiety yet, because I don't want to go to the doc. I do feel anxious all the time, and i did yay (coke) last weekend, and the weekedn before that, and my heart beat went fucking crazy, i got hot flashes, and shit WAS not cool (but i did have an enjoyablke time) also, i feel that my bad trips (5 in a row, some of you know about it) also has something to do with what im feeling. I HATE IT!!!!! Im wondering if there's something i can go pick up, that will help me with this feeling, herbal or meds, im doing acid on friday, and i dont want a bad trip, and for sum reason i kinda know that my anxiouys feeling will trigger one..

Hey man, thanks for the dont go into a situation where your worried about having a bad trip, because you'll have one.  I already know that, but thanks!  Thats what im trying to do!  go into a situation without anxiety (which triggers my bad trips).

Meditating eh?  I dunno, how much time does it take, and does it actually help anxiety?  I may be interested in this....

There has to be sumthing herbal or medicinal?  maybe not?

When I'm really stressed out, I take Ginseng. Three or four hours after taking some I'll look up from whatever I'm doing and take a deep breath, and feel that everything's all right. It's a subtle thing, but I think it makes the day better.

One thing though, and this is odd, it only works for me if I take Nature's Resource brand Siberian Ginseng supplements (410mg). For some reason the other brands don't do crap for me. I don't know if it's because 410mg is the best deal in the market, or maybe the other brands are less fresh, but that brand does it for me.

Your mileage may vary.

and zeta, that still woulden't help my anxious feelings, what ive done is done, and I can;'t take it back...if I'm going to keep doing mushrooms and such, then I want to at least have an enjoyable experience, i'm sure you would also....

chamomile (& other soothing teas - "grandma's tummy mint tea" by celestial seasonings is rather nice...)

increase the spacing between trips, & perhaps learn meditation & centering methods to focus & calm the mind...
do think about laying off drugs until you are in your 20s or so... (dr hofmann sez lsd is for middle-aged & older folks, not for youths...)

natures way of calming your body
also valerian root

From The Psychopharmacology of Herbal Medecine,

"Kava's long-reputed efffect for creating relaxation is supported pharmacologically, and a few controlled studies have confirmed its usefulness in treating anxiety. Formal studies on improving sleep have not been conducted, but are warranted. There appears to be little toxicity with proper use of Kava. Perhaps one of the most useful properties is that it produces a relaxed but alert state in lower doses, with minimal effects on cognition."

Also under the heading anxiolytic effects,

"Several methodologically controlled studies have been performed to assess the anti-anxiety effects of kava. The studies have employed standardized doses of kavalactones ranging from 60 to 240 mg per day, and were 4 to 24 weeks in duration... A review and meta-analysis of methodologically controlled studies of kava for treating anxiety were undertaken by Pittler and Ernst (2000). They found kava to be superior to placebo across all seven controlled studies. A meta-analysis of three studies that used the Hamilton Anxiety Scale found a significant reduction in anxiety.

"Some studies found kava to be effective using only 2 acute doses (pre-operatively), while others found benefit after chronic doses..."

From this text it looks like you might need to take it for a while before you start noticing a reduction in anxiety.

If you have a REALLY bad anxiety problem talk to your doctor about obtaining a low dose benzo. From my experience, they may try to put you on something else, but quite frankly benzos are the best perscribed option.

For a more natural state I would start with kava. Works great and after a few times you will start to feel it more and more.(like with some other herbs) I've also used 5-htp but it is very expensive and it's usefullness, to me, is limited to next day use after beating the hell out of your mind with some drug. A new herb on the market is called Rhodiola Rosea, and although I have yet to try it, it looks promising. I remember reading in Newsweek that it was used on Russian athletes as a stress reducer and mild stimulant.

If you're of age in your country a few drinks(wine, beer, or hard alcohol) a day can really help, but as with benzos watch out for addiction and excess usage.

Well, around here every drug store and even most superstores(such as wal-mart) carry kava. 5-htp is a bit more difficult to find but many drugstores and vitamin places stock it. I don't know about that other herb, but if nothing else all of these are for sale online, and maybe at a better price. (I found a place selling kavakava at about 1/2 the price of anywhere else, if you buy in bulk)

I just got off the phone with the local organic market, and Kava has been banned  in canada :frown:

I guess these others will have to do.....:(
