i just cheated on my gf

And I didn't expect to feel this way, but I really fucking hate myself right now. I am shit. I feel like my heart and lungs have been twisted up like a wet rag. Ever since we got together seven months ago I've been wanting to bang somebody else, and now that I actually have, I never want it to happen again. Disregarding my truly special lady for the sake of a hot but obnoxious piece of ass is possibly the most despicable thing I've ever done.

I love my GF like nothing else, we have such a beautiful connection and we make each other feel so happy and safe. We have no drama, fights always get immediately resolved, and unlike most people our age (early 20's) we recognize the value of personal space. We're not dead set on burning out on each other, we enjoy each other's company when our own separate, busy lives permit. We have great sex and we have fun together.

I don't know if I can live with myself. I've never hated myself like this before. I'm afraid I won't be able to look her in the eyes the next time I see her without tearing up. Am I going to get over it? Should I tell her about it?

just dont do it again.  It sucks that you went that far and now you feel bad for it and you will pay but if you tell her it will ruin you relationship.  I am sorry u fucked it up and now who knows what will happen but you cant take it back.  telling her will make her not trust you again and she might be likely to do it to you to get back at you so if you can live with her not trusting you and then going out and getting back at you then tell her.  if not than just remember how bad you feel now when you think of hooking up with another lady and don't do it.

I think you guys are right, it would only be hurtful to her if I told her about it. I'm just worried about this way that I feel right now. I don't know if I'm going to be able to act normally around her. I seriously hope I get over this and fast.

If she point-blank asked me if I've "been cheating" on her, I think I'd easily say, "no." This was a one-night thing. I'd sooner die than repeat it. If she point-blank asked me if I've EVER cheated on her, I don't know what I'd say. I might honestly admit that I'd done it once and that it made me feel like a horrible person and vowed never to do it again. Who knows how she'd take that. I guess lying might actually be preferable.

I like to buy her little presents and write her poems in the first place because I'm just a faggot like that. So if I do it she probably would just think I was being my usual sweetheart self.

Thanks for being understanding guys, it seems like the only way you can get serious and respectful responses on SA is by making a thread about having cheated on your GF :lol:

I think I'll get past this... I'm not going to tell her. I should try to see this as a learning experience, a reminder of how lucky I am and how glad I should be to have such a special person in my life. I'm going to do something special to remind her of how much I love her, and maybe now I'll know better than to do something this retarded again.

I don't know. Residual single-ness? I had a panic attack when we first made our relationship "official." I've made a habit out of casually chasing skirts for the better part of the past five years, and I've had trouble adjusting, even though every day with her is another confirmation that I couldn't possibly have done better for myself. And especially after last night.
