Does suffering enrich us?

Don't know about "us" but your suffering could possibly be enriching.

Taking my shoes off this afternoon was enriching.

It can and it can also brake us.

And is that enriching? I'm thinking about the ol' 'no pain, no gain' philosophy that appears to have found common currency among the smug and comfortable classes. It strikes me that most suffering is completely useless. Something that most of us, or at least many of us, spend much of our lives avoiding.

Unfortunately we can be made to suffer. Hence the phrase made to suffer. Nevertheless, we can choose to suffer.

Viktor Frankl

A person who has a right to speak about suffering.

"It was due to his and others' suffering in these camps that he came to his hallmark conclusion that even in the most absurd, painful and dehumanized situation, life has potential meaning and that therefore even suffering is meaningful. This conclusion served as a strong basis for Frankl's logotherapy. An example of Frankl's idea of finding meaning in the midst of extreme suffering is found in his account of an experience he had while working in the harsh conditions of the Auschwitz concentration camp:"

According to da Buddha, and I agree, suffering is caused by attachment. Attachment to things being other than they actually are.

The camp dude was talking about pain imo.
