outgrowing your friends
    #11714214 -

Does anybody think that since they have used psychedelic drugs or simply gotten farther in life (internally or externally :leaf: ) feel differently about some of your friends?

I don't mean to say this is an elitist way but it seems almost pointless to hang out with certain people for too long...  more so if i can't relate to any of their interests  .....      and more to the point- im not gonna go out of my way to hang out with (seemingly) un-interesting people although im always down to blaze with anybody if they stop by but i dont really live near most of my friends so in the cases i would be talking about that doesn't really happen much....

i also want to saythat i am grateful for the friends i have regardless! most of them are cool ppl :scrambled:

Can  anyone relate? Have similar happenings/stories?

Certainly.
There's definitely people that I feel like I can see through now, much more so than before I got into psychedelics.
But almost all of my close friends are still my homeys, even after some deep realizations. Even a few of them that don't trip.

I noticed a lot of the relationships that i had with people i considered best friends change very much when i started smoking. I grew close to one and drifted away from the ones that looked at me at not just a "stoner" but as a drug addict that steals from kids and his mom's purse.

Lots of people here have experienced that and we've discussed it lots, mainly in physical and mental health.

I cherish my friends but spend most of my time alone because we no longer share many similar interests.

They probably feel the same way about you.

Think about it.

OP:  It happens as you grow up.  I realized a while ago that my friends spend 90% of their time talkin shit about each other and criticizing various aspects of each other's life.  I realize that it's in a male's nature to bullshit and joke around with his friends -- but that shit gets old.

My friends all split from the pack after high school. Since then I have started a family and that pretty much takes up all of my time. I hang out with my brother about every night, and my buddy that lives down the street almost every night. Other than that I really don't have to much of a social life outside of the wife and kids. The wife and I have mutual friends, but they don't come around to often. When they do it always seems like they need us for something like watching their kids. I wouldn't mind if they returned the favor every now and then damn it.

Yea, so that's my social life.

Hey guys, merry Christmas! My first post here so.....yeah, I'm a newb.

I notice that as my major outlook or "worldview" changes, my friends and associates change also, not really by my choosing but just because the commonality we shared has changed. For instance, my interest in shrooms has brought me here.... a place I never would have ventured into but in my personal search for some relief from chronic depression I found literature on shrooms and depression treatment, so , here I am.

We all are on our 'own' path, sometimes we share it with many, sometimes with just a few. People who think for themselves, don't buy into the BS put out by the media and the culture we live in tend to be a lonelier lot simply because we don't think the same thoughts as everyone else and essentially that is what binds us to others, our mental landscape. We've all experienced instant attraction (and repulsion) upon meeting someone and upon further investigation we usually find what the attraction is......a commonality in our thought life, a shared belief, a shared experience, a shared trauma....something that we share.
As we seek new experiences, change our beliefs, and heal our problems, our thought life will change and inevitably this will change our circle of friends to those who share these new thoughts. So.....if none of your surroundings have changed and none of your friends have changed, you have not changed. Whether this is good or bad is up to you. Sorry to bore you with my first post...

I got into psychedelics my last year of high school. It's hard to say if outgrowing my friends was caused by the psychedelics use or because of that high school to college transition where you lose some of your friends. But I do believe it's allowed me to see people in a different way. It's hard to explain and I don't want to try.
