Things I have "learned" in the past month.

The last thirty days have been what I might call an eventful for me.  They started with a shock, meeting my (I thought formerly) schizophrenic friend at a professors office, and having to walk his incoherent body to the college nurse's office.  I say body, because for all but a moment, "he" was not there, and while he remembered me, he could not communicate with me in any sense I am used to.  If you have never had this happen, I hope you never have to.  If you are close to the position of my friend, there is nothing I can tell you that can help except for that. 

The thing about schizophrenia is that people in its grips don't understand words the same way you and I do, because they take them to mean things which make sense only to them.  Some normal people are somewhat like this too, and no one would call them crazy.

I used to believe that enlightenment might be like a kind of schizophrenia with control, I now realize this is only a way of putting words on the absurdity that is delivered to me.  If realizing that words, beliefs, and opinions are empty is enlightenment, then I am in a constant state of maintaining that.  I am not, however, in possession of any label, which "enlightenment" by its own token, is.

I don't want to make this too long, so I'm cutting this short here.

Nice realisation.

Except, words, opinions, and beliefs are not empty... they can only be empty if they are abstracted away from the people who are expressing them, which is completely artificial and not based on actual state of affairs. Words, opinions, and beliefs are meaningful to people and contribute to making up each person's world, even if people can't agree on which words, opinions, or beliefs are the "right" ones or even if they don't realise they are having them at the time that they are expressing them.

I could not explain myself enough in text in a way I'd be willing to put the time into that could show you what I felt about that.  Traumatizing?  If by that you mean damaging, then no.  This last week I've not given it much thought, and I figured I'd get the rest of it out here.  Did it effect my thoughts?  Yes.  After leaving the place I took him I cried a little, but I felt like this event would be minor in comparison to what I might endure later when I find a career in gerontology.  That's roughly what really went through my mind, if you understand where I'm coming from.

Why would you ask what "people" are when you used the word yourself in the OP? I understand that you're trying to make a point by asking the question, but it's a point that leads nowhere and is meaningless.

I asked that question because it is necessary for your argument that there are distinct things called people.  If people are causally (or otherwise) buried amongst everything else, then it would be pointless to attribute anything to "people."  You obviously didn't understand where that question came from, so you called it a stupid question.

I would answer this question if it was relevant to my question about your words, and it might still be, but we are at a standstill until you explain yourself.  I could ask you what a gyro is, but its not attacking anything in your argument.  Equally so, asking me what a word is does nothing to deflate my original question.  The burden is still on you, who has explained what I was talking about in terms of people.

Dont' get hung up on "enlightenment". It's a catch all phrase for any yahoo on a mission.

Just keep on learning and try not to believe things just because they're convinient or safe.

I like thinking about enlightenment because it is my ideal goal, attainable or not, and holding myself to a high standard stops me from letting little things slide.  Its like when you play golf, you're supposed to aim for the smallest spot possible, not just a general direction.
