I dont ride a bike, but being from Austin I do fully agree with share the road.  This is tho all cyclists obey the same rules/laws of the road as everyone else.

Its hard to argue a case sometimes when a percentage of the people you are arguing for disobey shit. But yet again, there are more fuckers who disobey laws while driving!  So, eh I will shut up with this....

I think sharing the road is needed!

[Edit] I missed the whole point,  I dont feel that violence is an answer but yes, the driver deserves some shit to happen.

They usually see me spit which is all I care about, they're running a red at the last second while they can clearly see me waiting/starting to pedal.

You have to bike very defensively when you bike on the road, constantly knowing if there's a car behind you and whatnot.

to clarify the situation I mentioned earlier. While crossing the intersection where I have the green, cars perpendicular to me who turn on the red look up the road for cars but don't look right to see if someone is walking or biking across the road. I usually have to wait until I can get them to catch my eye so I can go. I'm always scared some retard will just punch it without looking though. In my experience bikers pay ALOT more attention than drivers because we're the ones exposed and they're the ones in potentially huge killing machines.

Yeah I can understand that.  I think the problem is they dont really teach kids or adults about watching for bikes while driving, and I think they really should start.  I mean I would have the same problem while on my bike (harley) I would get ran off the road or close to it alot, and my shit was loud even.

The only way your scenario would create an accident is if you're going the wrong way. If they're looking in the direction of the oncoming traffic then they should be looking in your direction.

Unless you're riding on the sidewalk and crossing like a pedestrian. Then I can understand your complaint.

Last year drunk bikers killed 6. All six were themselves drunk bikers.

That IS his complaint. Drivers take the most cursory of glances, say "uhp, no cars" and go, completely failing to check for bikers who, in that situation, have the right of way. It's bullshit.

it's principle. what you stated seems like it should be an expected rule of thumb for cyclists on roadways. cyclists take the risk, and live with the risk. i am tired of the roadways constantly being catered for bikers who on average can add upwards of 15 min to my commute (i live in Seattle by the way...a huge cyclist population).

But that gripe isn't exclusive to riding a bike.
Sucks that drivers are shitty wherever he's from, but most populated areas have drivers that are conscience of pedestrians.

It's a lose/lose scenario half the time. In some places, it's illegal to ride on the sidewalks. Because you put pedestrians in danger.
But in some places, it's even more dangerous to ride on the road. So you take your chances on the sidewalk.
Then you still get hit by dumb motherfuckers peeling out of parking lots without stopping or looking. (Has happened to me on 3 separate occasions, and I am a very conscious and defensive rider. I stop at red lights.)
If you are driving a motorized fucking vehicle, you have a fucking responsibility to not fucking run people over, not bitch at bikers for slowing you down for 10 seconds and putting their fucking lives in danger. I don't give a fuck if half the bikers on the road don't obey the rules, that doesn't give you a pass to put their life in danger.

The bottom line is, most cities are very poorly laid out for cyclists. Drivers can bitch all they want, but the reality is we're doing the best we can with a system that was simply not designed with bikes in mind. And it's OUR lives that are in danger because of it.

Note that this is not meant to be a defense of bikers who run red lights and shit. I do not support disobeying the rules of the road.

Neither do I. Luckily I live in a city now that has bike lanes, and tons of bikers, so it's great, and people are pretty conscious of them.

I've lived in other places though, where people just don't give a FUCK. Twice I've been hit and laying in the road and the fuckers just peel off.

I misjudged the distance and my feet slipped off the pedals once...then twice(and I knew I was screwed), I was just going into sixth grade.

Like I said, I've been run over. My arm was broken under me while I waited for the firemen to use air pillows to raise the car off of me. Untill my bike can leave you a bloody mess with scars and memories you'll never forget, and that was just a damn Mercury, then you should be cautious!

Both times were almost identical incidents too. I'm cruising on the sidewalk (after being too scared to ride on the road from crazy ass motherfuckers),
And you know how sidewalks go across the exits/entrance to parking lots and crap, well you're constantly crossing those....
I'm riding down the sidewalk, being very aware of whats going on around me. I see cars in the parking lots all the time yeah,
But both times, I SEE these cars way in advance, not anywhere near the entrance, sitting there... then as soon as I'm 5 feet away they decide that is the perfect time to not look and just PEEL out... I see them perfectly clear... they don't even look... and just nail me
