Re: New Age/Spiritual Terminology [Re: 4 Way Street]

Sticking needles in people does seem to have some effect, but has nothing to do with meridians and more like endorphin release.

Here is the important part: tests done using 'Certified Practioners' and doctors who did not have a clue and randomly inserted needles showed the exact same effect.

This is the same with Reiki practioners and ordinary touch/massage.

Personal attention plus concern plus randommodality = healing effect.

I also wonder about you.

Wonder all you want. I have proposed at least 43 Swami (my old handle) $20K Challenges based soley on the claims made by a poster. No one else here has done anything like this (either because they don't have the balls or don't really believe their own nonsense). Care to guess my record?

That is unsubstantiated hearsay enough for me.

So you have proven that random internet users fail to take you up on your challenges and made up a reason why they do this. This is very useful and relevant information.

As a biased, evil skeptic, I went to an acupuncturist with great expectation to alleviate my back spasms. Five weekly sessions at $100 per = stupid, gullible fool and lots of back pain.

You too are a random internet poster. Apparently no one needs $20K because money is unspiritual.

What claim can you prove with certainty that you think I will disbelieve?

Last night I was honored with the Nobel Prize in theoretical physics. This worldwide recognition has given me the opportunity to bring hope to a war-ravaged world. I vowed to myself I would work like a dog at this. But now, it's 10:30 in the morning and I'm just getting out of bed. I did get up earlier around 8:00am, but I just lied in bed for a while, and then...jerked off. I've got to stop masturbating, it makes me too lazy. Stop it Albert...stop it.

Honestly though, I'm seeing a lack of sources on OC's part.  Do you have any links or substantial scientific studies on any of these phenomena?

4. Gulf Breeze Sightings - hoax

7. Face on Mars / City on Mars - rock formation

8. Nostradamus 1999 - nothing

9. Niburu - imagination

10. Photon Cloud - fantasy

11. Phoenix Lights - misidentification

12. Myoto's water crystals - total nonsense

13. 2012 - more nonsense

On and on with the New Agers batting 100% wrong - never even getting one right. Gee, why should a rational person doubt?

Right, some people who seem intelligent dismiss certain theories the second they are heard merely due to the fact that people use new age or spiritual type terminology, like consciousness, prana, life-force energy, awareness, unconditional love etc...

Dismissing certain theories just because the terminology puts you off is being very closed minded & remaining in ignorance

Like dismissing the possibility of penetration into higher states of consciousness through meditational practices because it sounds 'new agey' is just absolutelyfuckingridiculous

 :peace:

The fact that to some people you even say the word 'consciousness' or 'awareness' & they automatically think your a new ager & close of from the conversation is just incredibly ignorant!

You don't want consciousness? Better knock yourself out then

Of course you can doubt New Agers, but that is not what the OP was about, it was about theories that share some of the same terminology as
New Age theories being dismissed because they do share some words and these two were emphasized, consciousness and awareness. Your specific examples did not address the original post's general statement, they supported a separate claim that you made.
