so you want to demonstrate mastery by not having to be a \\master of anything and you want to play the game of not playing a game?

am I misreading you?

Yeah, you are. I don't want to be master OR slave. I just want to be me, whatever that entails. It seems to me that seeking mastery over others is slavery in itself.

do you want mastery over being you, or do you want your subconscious desires to master you?

I'm sorry, I've been caught up in a philosophical debate and I can't help myself!

My point is that "social hierarchies" don't really influence how you choose to spend your time, unless there is somebody sitting on your back with a rifle giving you orders, in which case it isn't really "social" anymore.

sorry for participating in derailment of your thread.

i think you are basically right and know personally that women and gay men both have mating rituals exactly how you describe (for women) because people are basically animals, and the conscious follows with whatever is going on unconsciously.  these people who are like 'just be yourself' don't understand the human condition as well as you do.

If they had any real curiosity they would study and try to apply the technique before judging it.

Yeah, I also agree with OP essentially. It's sad that we live in a world where points like these need to be spelled out to the cowed.

I'm also sorry to the OP for helping to derail his thread. Really, this whole discussion had its genesis with Poid, so you should just give him a bad rating.

Learn technologies to identify and scale the social hierarchy and then say hierarchies don't effect how you spend your time.  You are speculating about an experiment you haven't run.

Even defining yourself as opposed to hierarchies and not playing the hierarchy game makes you depend on hierarchies for the form of what you are opposed too.  There is no logical way most science is true and hierarchies don't influence how people spend their time when they are alone.

I don't understand if you think most people do act in hierarchies and you don't like the games with that, and want to be exempt, or you think most people don't act in hierarchies most of the time.

I don't disagree with anything you say about social hierarchies. I just choose not to consciously participate. I don't see that I will be a happier person on the "top" of the social hierarchy than on the "bottom."

so you consciously choose to unconsciously participate?  That's not effective at getting what you want out of life.

Sometimes you get what you want by climbing lower on a social hierarchy.  BDSM players who choose to kneel down, crawl like a dog and get whipped, for example, (or the women who respond to these cues and want to get laid) get what they want by playing low on the social hierarchy.  You should play hierarchy games but not have the goal of being top dog.  If you are opposed to always being on top, learning how to get what you want by submitting to people or having them have the top roles.

But you can't not play the game.  It's like godel.  The game of not playing social games is itself a social game.

do you see you will benefit from learning how to consciously manipulate from both the top and the bottom as circumstances dictate?  Is that different then trying to maintain yourself as top dog?

I still don't disagree with anything you say about social hierarchies...

If anything, I can definitely see the pleasure in climbing lower in your BDSM example.

But overall, I see the act of thinking about how to "one-up" somebody on the social hierarchy as ultimately being a submission to their desires over your own in the pursuit of domination over them. And that strikes me as self-destructive. I'll do it if I'm forced to in the pursuit of my own desires, but I won't do it for its own sake.

So I suppose I just have a problem with those who seek mastery for its own sake... which leads to...

My original point was that #16 is a fucking idiot for trying to be on top of every social hierarchy he encounters.

which leads us to: Your heart surgeon seeks mastery for it's own sake.  He's actually a sociopath (how else could he handle all the blood) with no feelings for humans.  The only time he is happy is when his colleagues comment how good he is.  The only thing he cares about is having a better score then neighboring surgeons.

Isn't that a good thing?  Why is your ability to attract sex partners less important then your heart surgeon in regard to mastery?

Good on the heart surgeon for saving my life and good on me for getting ass.

I see your point, that pursuit of mastery is not inherently destructive. Good illustration. I've really just been talking about my personal philosophy on life, though, and my original goal in posting in this thread was to give what advice I can to those who apparently find it so goddamn hard to get a bit of ass.
