spawning to straight coir or add nutes?

With coir I always read that you need to add ground up coffee and some other substance (gypsum?) but this looks fine to me

Oyster shell or gypsum need to be added to the casing mixture. There are hundred different methods out there on how to make a casing mixture.

picked this guy last night from a straight coir tub.
it just depends on how many flushes you want, etc.

it can.
normally without any added nutes, coir will last a few flushes before it becomes pathetic and weak.

The more nutrients you add and the more variety of nutrients/substrates you add the more, bigger, healthier etc. mushrooms you'll get.

The more complex the substrate, the better they will do.

So you don't NEED to add anything, but it will help.

i have a few trays in an oddly rigged perlite FC, yes.
but that cluster came from a monotub. i have a few going on their first flushes as we speak.

p.s. add nutes! you'll still be able to grow well without but not as nicely and productively as with some in yer substrate.

use coffee in your substrate, a lil gypsum powder will help w/nutrients also. 
look at large_doses 'pasteurized coir tek'. it has a step by step pics and all. 
Im adopting his tek myself.

if your spawning to it, it wouldnt be to hard to just add some spent coffe grounds and some gypsum into it, and its well worth it in my opinion.

gave my tubs the patriotic red white and blue......haha.

i've only used gypsum for keeping my grains from clumping.
