1st casing attempt...straight coco coir or mix? Recipes?
    #2757226 - 06/02/04 04:49 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hi all, newb with first attempt at cakes successful (thanks to this board) but now I'm casing and I purchased some coco coir. Should I mix, or use straight coir? I've heard both, but what do you guys prefer? Can I get a good recipe or walk thru of your procedure using coir? I've read the FAQ but a more detailed approach would be appreciated, with some tips on avoidding contamination if any of you have any interesting methods. I'm just going to incubate them in my terrarium cause the room tempt gets to 80 with teh AC off and I can use my humidifier to get the RH to around 95% for prepinning, this sound alright? Also, I'm a little confused by what they mean by valleys. I've never laid a casing layer, but how deep should these 'valleys' be in which the mycelium is to grow on an even casing layer? Thanks everybody!

i reccomend 70/30 coir verm
if you look in the grow log section of the site you will see when the proper time to fruit a casing is
make sure to patch it is worth the effort and time
good luck

Why use the coir/verm instead of peat moss/verm. Im just curious because I used the peat moss/ verm with lime and oyster shell. Is the coir better?

coir is a much better substance in general for growing, it holds tons of water and drains well and holds lots of air.

every time i use a 60/40 coir verm casing layer the mycelium starts to colonize surface. i wondered if there are nutrients in the coir that cause the mycelium to colonize it...anyone know?
