Atheism does not adress any questions, it does not represent a side to any particular argument....etc

There is no Atheism except from the point of view of the theist.

Some people who call themselves atheist's go out of their way to try and disprove various religious beliefs, but that is not atheism. Atheism is simply the lack of a belief in god. Or more specifically a lack of belief in your god.

Thats an interesting view point, is there a difference between this point of view and agnosticism? I think the form of atheism where people make the clear assertion that there is no god or any divine power, is clearly taking sides in an argument, or atleast addressing a question.

He screws up right off the bat by ignoring the multiverse theory, and by equating science to belief

Also, I don't think that any scientist has ruled out that the universe was created by an advanced being.  It's the whole concept of omnipotence that kills the God claim.

Also, he's pretty damn ignorant of evolution.  Ignoring the timeline factor, ignoring evidence of modern day evolution (little toes).  Hey, he gave it a shot, but he barely scratched the surface of an effective argument.

Genetic traits are subject to natural selection. If there is a mechanism that selects certain traits to be more advantageous to survival, "evolution(microevolution)" can occur rapidly. This can be an "artificial" mechanism such such as allopatric speciation. In this case species are separated geographically such that over time the organism which contain the quickist reproduction will win out even if their physiological traits are not superior in an absolute sense.

One area that i consider awesome concerning something similar is with cuddlefish. Their reproduction is the result of complex mating rituals where females choose their host based on colorful displays by males. Their are males which are basically "shemales" who mimic female traits and take advantage of mating to pass on their genetic material. It is not nessecisaryly good but it is how it works.

WARNING: I'm drunk and I don't quite remember this example so look up cuddle fish on your own, they are awesome. They have a higher brain mass to body mass ratio than humans. Really fascinating stuff.

I think he's trying to show the difference between what science has proven and what people often infer from science. But i don't think he is the best advocate of this view point.

I don't think that intelligent people were his target audience.  More like teen baptists that are thinking of getting out, or at least having second thoughts and needing a little reassurance.

Bah...I don't know where my beliefs lie. What I do know is that Mr. Douche's accusatory tone makes him look closed-minded and "pretty darn stupid", quoting him of course haha. And he's spouting a lot of philosophies that have their own contradictions - chiefly teleological arguments that give credibilty to scientific theories, not only theological ones.

"I don't know where my beliefs lie"

IMO that is the best philosophical stance that anyone could have.

Exactly, he's limited by his own "american christian" perspective. People like that tend to not even realize that not all religions even include the belief in an omnipotent god, including judaism which his own religion evolved out of.

Prove there is a god without using the bible. I can prove that antibiotic resistant bacteria mutate (evolve very quickly). Antibiotic resistance spreads fast. Between 1979 and 1987, for example, only 0.02 percent of pneumococcus strains infecting a large number of patients surveyed by the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were penicillin-resistant. CDC's survey included 13 hospitals in 12 states. Today, 6.6 percent of pneumococcus strains are resistant, according to a report in the June 15, 1994, Journal of the American Medical Association by Robert F. Breiman, M.D., and colleagues at CDC. The agency also reports that in 1992, 13,300 hospital patients died of bacterial infections that were resistant to antibiotic treatment.

If that isn't evolution I don't know what is. Also why haven't they found Kiwi and other flightless and swimless bird fossils, Kangaroo, Duck billed Platypus fossils in the area around mount Ararat? I know they could not have swam or flown to Australia and New Zealand. How did all the animals get to the ark if they had to cross large bodies of water? What about all the species of Termites he would have had to bring on the ark and the millions of termites  that all the species of Anteater would have to eat? They would have eaten the ark since time in the bible was longer at that time and people lived hundreds of years. The flood would have lasted years not days. Damn it must have been sky fairy magic.

1) Cars can hurt you.
2) You cannot fly.
3) It's never a good time to die.
4) Taking your clothes off will draw attention.
5) Keep your mouth shut at all times while in public.
6) Although you may see things that are not there, you won't NOT see things that are there.
7) Don't forget how to breathe.
8) Only carry: a house-key, some loose change, and your address in your shoe.
9) Nobody can tell that you are tripping until you tell them "I'm tripping".
10) No matter how fucked-up you think you are, you'll eventually come down.

Explain to me how speciation occurs.

It requires faith imo. The human brain cannot accurately comprehend speciation without faith.

You do realize that "god" is pretty much the most generic term that one could use right?

It doesn't mean anything, and as such, telling someone to "prove there is a god" doesn't mean anything.

In these sorts of arguments, one typically uses omnipotent (insert more adjectives) being.

Or just being for short.

That is a pretty limited perspective though, not all religions involve an omnipotent god.

"God" is an absolutely worthless term IMO.

True, but I don't see any reason to debate more than one type of god at a time.

Too much ground, as if that weren't already true.

God is *THE* omnipotent being

a god is a deity of speculative power
