What's the point of this thread if not to promote intolerance for atheists and separate us humans even further?  We should be trying to come together and understand each other's viewpoints instead of belittling them; calling a group of people dumb, pretentious and full of themselves just for their beliefs hardly helps matters even if you personally think they are.  Not to mention there's already at least three or four threads alone in the Pub about the existence of God.

Also, what's so silly about being certain that there is no God?  I'm pretty certain there is no flying spaghetti monster; am I consequently dumb and pretentious?  Don't answer that, it's a rhetorical question.

Finally, Bill Maher's awesome.  :awesome:

Maybe atheists know more than I do.  Personally, I don't know and I don't think we have the capabilities of figuring everything out.  People can believe whatever the hell they want to though, no matter how sure of themselves people are it isn't fact.  I don't really give a shit about it either, though I do have a strong hatred of Dennis Leary.  It isn't because he stole Bill Hicks act either, its because he's an unfunny hack who is full of shit.  The fact that he ripped off Bill Hicks adds fuel to the fire though, and proof he is alive and Bill Hicks is dead almost wants me to believe that there really isn't a god.

I think the "problem" Athiests have with "God" is due to their own narrow subjective definition of what "god" should be defined as.

In my experience, most staunch atheists are atheist out of spite towards established religions, not out of original belief.

I think that atheists don't have a problem with god, but rather they have a problem with the people who belief in god and cause immense amounts of suffering because of those beliefs. They have a problem with the way that religion is used to control and manipulate people, and also with the way that people give up their own power because they buy into something which is patently absurd and irrational.

It's not that atheists care about "recruiting" people to their ideology, but rather that they want people to be free to NOT be religious without being the victim of social repression and ostracization.

Atheists believe that we can be perfectly moral people for goodness' sake instead of obeying some arbitrary code of conduct simply out of fear of punishment.

The need for a god to explain the unknown in nature has gotten so thin in modern times that theists have had to completely water down the meaning of the word in order to avoid acknowledging that there is very little difference between their viewpoint and what would have been called atheist less than 200 years ago. Most "believers" I know are theist in name only at this point.

Nah i knew what it meant before i made this thread, most atheists dont even know what that shit means, theyre just atheists because theyre bitter and listen to tool often.

It's a similar situation to christianity in that both have been dumbed down and diluted with egotistical nonsense. Being truly christ-like is no longer what christianity is about and same goes for atheism, islam, and the scientific community. While there are those who still continue to practice as intended the majority have their own stupid reasons for doing it. this is my opinion and is in no way being presented as fact.
