War on Drugs Clock!
    #9351672 -

$1,600/second (ish) nationally. I knew it was expensive, but this brings new prospective on the War on Drugs. This clock shows the number of drug-related arrests and the amount of money spent on the war on drugs per second. Its like the US national debt clock and includes the number of HIV-preventable infections and Cannabis offenses. What you see will shock and anger you. But you all knew it was a waste of tax money so, I bring you...

The War on Drugs Clock

By the way, the time it took you to read this post, the US government has spent about $24,000. Have you stopped smoking weed yet?

This is fantastic. They could give every person like 10k...Didn't do the math, but it's a lot.

War on drugs = $19,000,000,000
Americans = 300,000,000

It averages out to about $63.33 for each person in America. For that price you could pay Jehovah's Witnesses to go door to door and convert everyone off of drugs... and it'd still be more effective.

They should just legalize all drugs.
ha

But seriously, they spend so much time and money and half the time all they get are little bags of marijuana.

the war on drugs is immoral, frighteningly expensive, very bad for public health and totally ineffective. This so called war does tremendous damage to our society. Organized crime makes outrageous amounts of money because drugs are illegal. This in turn gives them more power. So the war on drugs turns out to be the mobs main sponsor.

No one, not even the government, should be allowed to tell me what I can or cannot do with my own body and mind. I do not accept this kind of authority over me, and neither do you if you use illegal substances. It just isn't right.

haha think about how much the US govnt spends on drugs and how much it "gets" (in terms of seizures). They are probably spending way over $300 to get an eighth of pot.

Or resin from a pipe or a roach.  Nothing really surprises me in the war on drugs, like a lot of things with the worlds governments it's repressive and common sense is thrown out the window.
I don't think much is going to change.  I thought things would change with Brown in the UK, same shit.  I thought things would change with Obama until I learned about Biden's record, same shit.  Japan has gotten stricter and now so has the Netherlands, like a global war on drugs that's been proven to not work but hey, let's all keep pushing forward and maybe this time it will have better results.
The stupid argument of interupting supply is done by conformed people who have a lot invested in society as it is and don't think outside the legal box which is of course, good in their eyes.
When there is that much money in in it someone is always there to take it's place and supply always eventually meets demand so blame it on the drug users empowering the cartels and never on it's the prohibition and the resulting very luctrative black market at it's cause with the resulting violence, murders, imprisonments, turning on people, fear and paranoia that surrounds it.  Do you think Al Capone and how he did "buisness" could have been possible if alcohol wan't prohibited?  They learned and there is still many problems with alcohol but it's been much more benificial to the government and people to have it be legal.
More and more people outside of the religious and extreemly conservative communities know that pot isn't a dangerous illicit drug.  Why can't they present a balanced view about "drugs"?  With all the anti-drug commercials they show the negative sides that some people fall into with abuse but never the enjoyment of it or fun which is why it won't go away.  You never get people who say "I don't know, I really haven't tried such and such a substance or done research or read of peoples varying experiences on it and gained a balanced perspective".    It's most always that fear,  ignorance, and that stigma and the propaganda that surrounds it of it being "illegal" and harmful to yourself and the community.
It get frustrating but I get used to the absurd  things in society like the drug war after awhile and I will continue to do my thing against it, with the normal precautions and paranoia, just wanting to be left the fuck alone.:ohwell:

the only problem is those clocks are stright bull shit period. They use some arbitry number and then use it to calculate that into $/sec basiclly i could buy a big mac at 3$ lets say so then they go and say theres 300million americans so thats 900million $ a day spent on big macs and i highly doubt thats the case. Those clocks are bull shit propaganda in their own right.

The only difference is the government spends a finite amount of money on the war on drugs... and not every American is into Big Macs.
