US Border Patrol (close call)

Okay so this thanksgiving weekend i drove into socal from arizona and there were 3 or 4 border patrol check points since i was about a stones throw from the boarder.  Anyways on the way back i brought some bud back with me, and i wasn't to worried about getting hassled by border patrol as im white (look like im 18) and they just waved me through the other ones.  Well there is a check point at about mile marker 80 on Interstate 8 East.  This time they are not waving people through, it was slow moving traffic and after about 10 minutes of traffic we approach a sign that says "Dogs Working" and i almost shit my pants.  I was thinking of eating all my weed (1/8) and i was so scared i was going to get busted.  We start to approach the men in uniform and the border patrol cars with there red and blue lights on.  We get to about 4 cars behind the check point when they took the dogs (2 german shepards) and just had them sit next to a border patrol men instead of stopping each car and having the dogs sniff around the car they started waving us through.  So we drove through and i immediately check my side mirror and no one is looking back at our car.  MADE IT, omg i almost shit my pants i was terrified. 

So the question from this story is.  If i would have gotten busted by border patrol, who would have arrested me?  Federal or State government and what would my penalty have been?

friend of mine was driving thru blythe w/ an 8th and they tried to nail him on cross-state distribution :rolleyes:

fortunately, he was in cali, so he just got a possession ticket :rofl:

Damn, your government is rough. Here in Canada if you've got drugs it's truly quite hard to get busted, even if you're traveling.

5-10 years for an eight? shit. I don't think I'd ever carry under those circumstances.

Well the reason its so steep is cuz its technically 'trafficking' cuz i was traveling from California to Arizona and it would be the federal government.  State laws aren't bad in the US, but Federal laws woulda tore me a new ass hole.

I know that in NY a proposition was on the ballot this past Nov that anything under 1 oz is now a misdemeanor fine. I don't know when this kicks in.
