advice on installing cool mist setup in a martha (hoses)

Okay i have been in the search last few days looking for stuff on hooking up the cool mist system to my martha its a 36"...

    I have a couple cool mist machines and i have one particular that i can hook up a 1/1.4 hose from to the martha. so i stopped at the depot and purchased a cool ass tube that splis into two so it goes up straight but yet and outlet and is dividied nicely wont cause any restriciton. was wondering though i have 4 shelves in this martha wondering if i have to have an inlet at each shelf or top and middle onbly?? 

i was thinking of putting one at the top of the martha and one in the middle at the backside of the martha .. i have seen people also put them on the sides or both which is better?

or is having 3 inlets from one cool mist the best option like have one at the top of the martha on the side and the second towards middle/bottom on the side and the third in the middle of the backside of the martha???  please be gentle i dont wanna slash the plastic cover up to much  thanks

You can just put the coolmist in the martha and cut slits in the martha.

Yup , you can do that as well . I just hate giving up that prime real estate , lol .

purpose of the cool mist is for FAE, ultrasonic is for your humidity.
id def pipe the coolmist or cut a hole in the bottom so its sticking 1/2 in 1/2 out bringing in fresh air from outside the martha.. hope this helps!

FAE,  it needs a fresh intake source.  unless you put slits or pipe the intake in.

My experience is that it's far easier to maintain high humidity with proper air exchange by placing the unit inside the greenhouse, and then cutting windows and slits for FAE.  The windows ensure that the interior never gets stale, and the coolmist recycling humid air increases humidity over the one-pass method you get when piping it in.  In addition, adding hoses and/or blocking the natural output causes static pressure which ruins the bushings sooner, resulting in motor failure as it loads down.

It took a few years and a huge pile of wasted vics humidifiers to learn that lesson.  With the unit inside the greenhouse, it will last much longer.  Use a timer and dial it in so you get maximum humidity with as little water on the sides and floor as possible.

i just made mine yesterday.  heres what i did.

first i bored out the hanger hole in one of the side supports.  it happened to be 3/4 inches. 



then i bought a 3/4 inch barbed elbow connector from hardware store. and put it in the hose end.



then i put 4 layers of duct tape on the vinyl and cut the hole to match where i bored the hole into the frame.  and inserted the connector through the vinyl into the frame.  that way its not hanging on the plastic and its at the top of the unit.



wa la.  works sweet, cant wait to fill it.  peace.

It depends .

You should really heed RR's advice on this , especially if that's the way you're hooking up your CM . With only one hose , the pressure will back up and that particular unit could be dead in a week or two . I also have learned this from personal experience .

I don't follow RR's advice myself , lol , but I run at least 3 lines from my CM to my GH . If not , they will indeed burn out:thumbdown:




As far as slits or just leaving the bottom open , it depends on which way you go . With the CM inside the FC , you'll need the slits so fresh air can enter. With it outside , you won't , but chances are you'll have a wet mess to deal with if you leave the bottom open . I tape the bottom of my GH's to catch any moisture and just leave it unzipped a little to allow the heavier CO2 to escape, while fresh air is pumped in thru the CM .:thumbup:

I do it this way because my GH's are usually pretty full,



but I did burn up quite a few CM's before I got it figured out .

yeah i usually run it with only half the original opening covered so it doesn't cause back pressure.  but i was planning on putting at least one more hose possible two out of the cool mist, for another FC or a orchid terrarium
