well , the first to make it as far as the green house , lol
This isn't my first attempt , that ended in absolute , utter , devastating failure .
My first attempt I had 12 quarts ready to go . I was going to do them after I was finished with the others I had to spawn . When I mix my spawn , I open a 10 pound bag of pre-pasturized manure , drop 1/2 in each of 2 5 gallon plastic pickle jars . Add 1 quart of spawn , or 2 depending on time scheduling , mix and dump in a 16 quart sweater box . Gives me a nice 3 1/2" - 4" sub depth
Well , I get done with the others and head to the Pans . I was gonna keep going the way I was but add 3 quarts of spawn to each 5 pounds of sub . and make 2 casings instead of 1 . I heard it helps a lot with the colonization of Pans mycelium to use extra spawn . It doesn't seem near as aggressive and hardy as cubensis .
Everything was going great until it came time to dump the sub. into the sweater boxes . I was so used to making one casing per bucket that I instinctively continued to do so . I only made 4 casings instead of 8 and had my normal sub depth . They never fully colonized , only maybe 30% or so .
Well , I had the master left and decided to try one casing this go .
I mixed it with 2 1/2 pounds of Tenn. Stud to about a 1 1/2" sub depth and it colonized just fine . Took about 8 days . I put it in the green house 3 days ago . I checked it yesterday and it looked like this

it wasn't near this colonized when I had placed it in the day before . It was just starting to show in a few spots . I only had an 1/8" casing layer depth and was wondering if maybe I shouldn't have gone a tad deeper .
Well , I just went in to check it now and it looks like this

The fruit bodies seem to be forming at the heavier colonized parts of the casing layer , hope it continues to do so
I'm sooo excited

It's so exciting watching something you've never seen before . Not knowing what it will look like tomorrow
Don't even care about yield . I'd be happy with 4 grams dry .

Nice job, HC! The shallow substrate depth is good to know, thanks.
What did you case those trays with?

Aussie cased with 50/50+ .
The sub . depth was some good advice from RR and Blue Helix . As well as the casing depth and make up . I believe he did some experimenting with some different casing layers . Believe he tried a sand based , or cactus soil based and found 50/50 to work just as well . I don't believe he adjusted the ph though , as pans tend to not go as many flushes . Hopefully he'll step in and add some more worth wild and helpful advice and info . As should anyone else who has any .
It's all new to me
I'll try adding some pics every now and then as I ubderstand these to be fast growing . Makes sense since they don't get very big .

Not with that weak ass pinset , lol , J/K .
If that's nailing it , now I know why you've never nailed me
Luv ya Paw.
What kind of pinset you think it might get ? Will the heavy colonized parts produce ?

Are you growing these in your regular greenhouse? or the smaller mini greenhouses you picked up for pans?

I have in it with the cubes , some SA's . I've raised the temp some , about 78 and have had the humidity about 100% the whole time .
Those pins formed after 3 days in the green house .
I only had one casing this time so I didn't set up the smaller green house . If all goes well , I will next time

seems like you should be ok, with my first pan grow and second I noticed the parts that looked like good break through got no pons and the places that in cubes I would think be not the best fruited.... kind of ass backwards.
My first pan grow was in a 16 qt box in a TiT set at 80 deg with only a cool mist ultra-sonic running for a min every 3 hours. Same for the second but I used no poo, coir / WC / Critter country / verm / hint of agar..... It flushed but not the best, got 9 grams dry appose to 20 off 2 flushes.

Very nice. Yes, consider a 1 1/2" substrate depth maximum for copes. I really don't know why either, but every time I tried for a thicker substrate, they would colonize ok, but simply sit there and not fruit. I usually go with a 1/4" casing layer, but I see your 1/8" is doing fine. I've also had better pinsets by not pasteurizing the casing layer with this species. Just mix it up and lay it on.
Something you're likely to notice also is these tend to fruit continuously, rather than in distinct flushes, but sometimes that depends on strain. They also seem to look for excuses to abort, so be careful with misting. Wax paper will help hold in the moisture, but make sure the fruits are dry before you lay it on top of them. Looking good! RR

I hope you do also
Well , they seem to have survived the night so I'll give a little more info .
This was made using a 2 month old master , 1 quart WBS inoculated via LC that had been refridgerated since colonization . That was then spawned to 2 1/2 pounds of Tenn. Stud 100% pre-pasteurized equine poo .
After 8 days colonizing it was ready to case . I used sterilized , we'll see how it holds up to the green , lol , 50/50+ .
The sub layer is an inch and a half with an 1/8" casing layer depth .
I left that in incubation for a day and a half , used a clean fork to patch , I just move casing material around with the fork to cover the exposed mycelium . I never add more casing material , just move it around a little . This stuff is fast going through ths casing layer .
Then in the Green House .
The temp is 78 F and the humidity has been around 100% the whole time . They don't seem to be aborting , as I was lead to believe the high humidity would do . Pins formed in 3 days
Here's somee more pics just taken

Well , everything seems to be going OK so far . I'm watching them like a hawk . If anything seems to slow down , I might lower the humidity . Not changing a thing yet .
All in all , this has been a great experience and a whole lot of fun . Hopefully I'll be able to notch up a successful Pans grow on my belt . They are a little trickier then cubes , but nothing to be afraid of
