alright i bought the 34 dollar cool mist and im about to take it back. i taped over the whole main vent and stuck a tube in a hole i made. stuck the tube in the terrarium and the bastard will not get above 85%. my hygrometer is digital and i even checked its calibration. its totally fine. is my tube not big enough or what?

Is that the vicks cool mist? b/c if it is, you are covering the air filter thing that allows air to come in at the top, above the hole where the mist comes out. That is a little hose too. Maby you should try a big tube and like dreamatrix said, make sure you have some holes near the bottom of you terrain to let the old air / co2 come out.

1. Yes your hose could be a little bit bigger.
2 . Check my previous post that shows my setup with the pvc pipe and epoxy putty. This is a much better way to put this together than duct tape.
3. Like the previous poster said you do need a vent, however you cannot make it too big. If you have too much air leaking out the humidity won't build up. In mine I have a 3/4 inch hole in the bottom. It has a little polyfill in it to provide some back pressure.
4. Check for leakage around your lid by feeling around the edge with your fingers. If it feels cool at any point you have air leaking out and need to tighten things up. I ran into this on my setup and took care of it with cheap wooden dowels and bungee cords, but some people use silicon glue inside the lid to form a gasket and some people go to home depot and put closed cell foam weatherstripping on the lid or where the lid seats on top of the rubbermaid.
5. I also agree with the previous poster about unblocking the air intake on the cool mist.

i got me one of those vicks cool misters and after i concetering to modify it. i thought fuk it.. why change the design just put the thing in my giagantic roughneck on a shel i built inside to house it, works great with the digital min timer i got. only takes about 6 times a day to go off for 3 min an it never drops below 99% even with fanning 1-5 times a day.. i suggest plug the hole and get a porta closet.. bigger better, and easily able to break down

If you place your cool mist outside the fruiting chamber, then it eliminates the need to fan. That is one of the main reasons to use it in the first place.

You should take that back and get the VICKS V400, the one you have is more suited to be in a enclosed shelf type terrarium as it just sucks water into a wick then blows a fan on it to evaporate. The V400 has a spinning disc inside that makes water droplets and puts them out the top, it also has a filter.
