Infinity vs Probability
    #8247309 -

infinite

adj.

1. Having no boundaries or limits.
2. Immeasurably great or large; boundless: infinite patience; a discovery of infinite importance.
3. Mathematics.
1. Existing beyond or being greater than any arbitrarily large value.
2. Unlimited in spatial extent: a line of infinite length.
3. Of or relating to a set capable of being put into one-to-one correspondence with a proper subset of itself.

Something infinite.

probability

1. The quality or condition of being probable; likelihood.
2. A probable situation, condition, or event: Her election is a clear probability.
3.
1. The likelihood that a given event will occur: little probability of rain tonight.
2. Statistics. A number expressing the likelihood that a specific event will occur, expressed as the ratio of the number of actual occurrences to the number of possible occurrences.

idiom:

in all probability

1. Most probably; very likely.

I seem to find myself very confused with these two ideas and wonder if they are the same or opposites.

Assuming that the universe is infinite, that means every possible thing within any amount of time can happen at any second. Now inside infinite, there is a probability of me not getting hit by a meteor or school bus. I live safe everyday, but inside infinite, doesn't it seem like the chances of something random happening to me are in favor. Which makes you realize how life is truly unique. Is it that throughout an infinite amount of time and possibilities something like life came around. Or was it that life stood against the odds?

You think of 1 car, it will eventually break down. Now think of a 1000's of cars, 100's will break down, but is it probability that keeps the car from breaking, or is the mere fact that infinite hasn't taken its turn.
The probability of earth getting hit by a comet is probably pretty high, but it doesn't mean impossible. What we do know is that inside infinite, everything is possible. And by knowing what is false,( the probability that we wont get it) the truth is realized.

Now we get to Infinity Vs Probability

The universe, as in Space and Time is infinite.
Any possibility within the realm of our universe has or will happen.

Now when you say the universe is infinite, the probability of everything happening and everything not happening goes way up. Does that mean that they are in direct relation, or can probability be used as a measure against infinite. Man can not control infinite, the fact that he will die, but if he eats good, lives healthy it is more probably he will live longer. A trait only man is capable of, foreseeing the infinite in future, and preparing, making it more probable that he will not be effected.

hope I made sense trying to relate...

It think this could be so assuming that the ergodic hypothesis is right, i.e that a system, in that case the universe, over a long enough period of time, will explore all possible possibilities (or states). This might be highly improbable given that the universe can get stuck for excessive amount of time in some very "favorable" states. Unless it is really ergodic and the amount of time is really infinite that is.

Probability is the counterpart to infinite. Infinite and probability are concepts, not actual things.

As the life of a candle,
my wick will burn out.
But, the fire of my mind
shall beam into infinite.

I'd say there's a definite correlation between the amount of space in an environment and the number of things that can or can not happen, obviously.

Problem with the concept of infinity beyond contained systems is that it cannot be experienced or known.

I think its funny those who describe an experience as "infinite"...
Completely undermines the value of novelty, and theses people continue living without providing us with every solution to every problem and question possible...
"Sounds more like you got your mind blown man."

Theres always the difference between symbolically analyzing a concept and then trying to feel it out as a parameter of existence, because existence is just way too immense to model or contemplate with definitions and keep a straight face, especially when peoples lives and health are involved, I dont care how smart you are, theres no possible way to experience every known quirk of thought and circumstance and property.
You will not answer it with a rubric friends.
Not even pythagoras and his triangles will help you now.

So probability can be understood within a mathematical set of functions and values, but to impose the concept into a situation...it requires defining everything involved, ergo everything existant, with complete accuracy and clarity...and archimedes and his displacement cant help you there friends.

So lets play our chess games, and get together, get high start a new movement, see the doppler effect of the attractor in time, help some folk in pain and see what unravels

free will is a joke! ride the wave
