INFINITY
    #3162388 - 09/21/04 11:16 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Apeirophobia - the fear of infinity.

I can see why people would be afraid of infinity... Something that never ends is something that cant be comprehended by our puny minds and that can be frightending. But in my mind, its rediculous.

I think the idea if the infinite is an embracing one.

This is how i view infinity.

Time brings decay. Decay brings Death. Death brings an awareness of life... an awareness of how fleeting life can be. It brings a fear of death, and essentially, what could be after death. That fear brings every fathomable idea of an afterlife, or an absence thereof. That fear brings the fear of not accomplishing what you want before youre gone... possibly for good. It brings the fear of not accomplishing more than the next person before you die. It brings the fear of inferiority. It brings greed and it brings envy. It brings all negative things in our existance. Especially, with all that, it brings war.

The absence of time... well, maybe not the absence of time, cause we dont really know what time is... but the absence of decay... of death is the absence of all these fears that plague our existance. To me, thats the most embracing and awesome idea.:heartpump:
Just some thoughts. How 'bout yours?

When i've achieved Nirvana (reached the Godhead) during my trips, there is no time, no thought, no indivuality, just pure awareness, and pure bliss. When you finally achieve this (after death, instead of being reincarnated) It lasts for an infinity, but there being no time, you can't tell, it's just pure bliss, and i've always wished I could retain it forever when I start to come back down, and as I said eventually we all achieve forever eventually, I know this, yet even know it seems hard to comprehend (as i'm not experiencing it right now) it may seem scary, but it's not. However, being caught in the loop (life, death, rebirth) for an eternity is terrifying. That's my 2 cents, great topic, peace.

Our minds, or rather our observation of our minds, scans the void of infinity, in a very complex reality lens effect. Each conscious point is connected to a finite expanding system of coiling lines, which through the dimension of time, attempts to expand onto the whole, to become infinite itself. To compress the infinite into the finite, or rather - to expand the finite to the infinite is a never-ending cause, and thus - this is in vain.

Expand outside of perceptually linear time, and this conscious (not in our 3D manner) entity is the infinite, as it is without bounds. Hard to explain really, but it is the greatest illusion behind the dimension of time. A neverending cone, the top (infinitely small - nothing) becoming the bottom (infinitely large - everything) in a gradient of perceptual experience.

Hard to explain my views, but maybe that helped, a little...

totally... I have experienced that instance of the infinite many times. A very awe inspiring experience. But regarding what you were saying about being trapped in the birth, death, reincarnation cycle for an infinity, I was talking more along the lines of a transcendant infinity... The overmind infinity.

I feel during the trips, this is what Im getting a glimpse of.

But thats just opinion.

ok thats  more like infinit time, wich is acually a lack of Time since time is a function of space or space/time  my idea of Infinity is a bit bigger.
1.Having no boundaries or limits.
2.Immeasurably great or large  and even the Mathmatical Def works
Mathematics.
Existing beyond or being greater than any arbitrarily large value.

and While I grasp the concept I can never relise it for no matter how much I could expand my mind thats all I would end up doing by its very meaning one cannot experience True infinity for it would be the last thing you ever do

but I love it none the less

how would you be able to tell infinity was infinity? and how do we know there aren't hundreds of differnt types of time besides linear and infinity

I dig infinity. It is something that my mind can not perceive. An infinite challenge. If we perceived more, that challenge may only have existed in the time before the enlightment so to speak.

I think, infinity is only a contextual scale and therefor is limited within its context.
Even if there exist symbols for it as a concept, it must not be a true natural phenomen.

Just get it to its limits

But if you regard only time as infinity-factor, the lack of it would make many things to seem infinite for us. But surely they are limited by other 'factors', which could then be seen by our timeless souls

You know that is nirvana?
Kinda funny how you could reach a state which is just a word translated from another language. And from my reading of Buddhism and eastern philosophy, Nirvana is in the Samsara. In the round of being. I know that Nirvana is supposed to be the snuffing out of the flame, no more round the wheel of life and rebirth, but that is all there is. That is unless you want to sit in a void for eternity but that is just too fucking boring for me. I much prefer this Nirvana, the round, playing the motherfucking game.
But really, what makes you think it is Nirvana?
I can go to the void by closing my eyes!

You cant create void by closing your eyes, thats just a lack of visual stimulus, big differance

Infinity is the nature of life. In order to experience life we take infinity and chop it up into various chunks. Eventually we will have enough of that and well just sorta do the whole thing at once. It will in one sense be nothing but only because we cant concieve of everything at once from our current perspective...

It certainly wont be boring, but no need to rush the process yet.
