There are plenty of people who seek to preserve the well-being and sustainability of any endangered species, regardless of how "cute" they are. As someone who failed to respond in the slightest to inquiries regarding implications made in your own postings, it becomes more curious what your intentions were in making this thread. Well, then, clearly what you are referring to is something other than what I was speaking of, which was referring to endangered species.

Let's go back to your original question, "Would you be just as upset if they were not such cute animals?". I personally responded yes, because they were endangered animals, there was no practical purpose for the act, and the perpetrator did not have a legitamate claim to the animal (they didn't own the animal itself or the right to take its life). This honest response stands for any animal, regardless of how cute it is.

You failed to elaborate as to how you concluded that the_cow was an "honest respondent". Its curious, due to the fact that he simply said "hell no". How can you honestly determine that he was being honest?

Opinion based upon observation of human nature.

Beauty, cuteness, sexiness, cuddlyness all create emotion and bias. This is a generalized fact and has been proven many times.

I will present pictures of slaughtered, but endangered fish and pictures of slaughtered seal pups to random people and ask them to personally gauge their emotional reaction.

The wager is that seal pup empathy will win by a big margin if not a landslide.

This is explainable not because of the "cuteness factor".
It is because, presumably, puppies have more awareness than fishes. I am not saying it is a fact because we can't really tell what's in a fish's mind, but we ARE able to connect on a deeper level with puppies. :hehehe:
So it is more shocking for a human to think that someone with a considerable and evident level of awareness has been killed and treated bad. I also know this by observing human nature and human psychology. :hehehe:

Thre are some 10 milions sharks killed each year. Their numbers are certainly diminishing.

The shock to me comes not from the cuteness of the animals or the endangered status, but because of the senselessness of the killing. They used the carcasses for nothing practical and the killing served no purpose other than to quench some savage desire.

Your example is also a bit different because what you are talking about if a clash of habitats, both yours and theirs.

That is much different than invading an animal's habitat and inflicting violence on them for no practical reason.
