Can psychedelics effect your vision?

Now, I've heard of acid permanently effecting your color sensitivity and/or general vision.

The thing is: I've never done acid. I've only done mushrooms - a lot of them.

So, Here's how it goes. Back in summer my vision was just right and fine. As fall came along and I had several massive mushroom trips probably once a week for 2 months, I've began to notice a slight decrease in my vision.

So, have any of you guys heard of a psychedelic (mushrooms in particular) messing with vision or is it more than likely just my eyes crapping out for natural reasons such as reading or school?

Well I've only shroomed 5 times, but I've smoked alot of weed, and I have to say that ever since I started using psychedelics, my vision became, well, different.

Everything is more dreamlike and unreal in a way; more beautiful. I think if you are experiencing hte same thing as me, that you should just get used to it and accept it as a gift rather than a curse.

That's actually another thing I've noticed. I trip out on everyday, banal activity and when I stare there's more aesthetic to everything. I definitely agree. But, I've become more near-sided and I can hardly read small print.

I don't think it's anything bad necessarily, afterall it's nothing a new pair of glasses won't fix. I'm just wondering if the psychedelics and weakness of vision are directly related.

Aside from the usual HPPD that I got from Salvia and Mushrooms, I recall one particularly strong LSD trip a few years back when my night vision completely crapped out on me. We were tripping on an island in the middle of the James River and were walking around on trails and I couldn't see my hand in front of my face. It got so bad that I had to grab onto my friends shirt sleeve and have him lead me around. Despite it being a full moon and relatively bright outside, I was about the most blind I had ever been before.

To this day my night vision has never quite recovered. And I do remember it being extremely good up until that particular night. :shrug:

I don't consider it a psychedelic,
but Hell's Bells can cause permanent blindness

My friend ate a flower and was blind for a good duration of time haha

I think the near-sightedness may be related to psychedelics, but I don't think that's the only factor. But in any case, I'm no optometrist, so I can't give a professional experience.

Another reason I want to know all this, is cause I'm going to an optometrist in two days and I wonder if they would know the relation. It's through my mothers insurance so she will be there and that would be shit if he said "this is related to psychedelic damage." I doubt he will but, what if?

I have had HPPD for years after using LSD, and i havent done acid in years.
I dont mind it, but i have never had hppd from mushrooms, oh wait I doubt id notice.
I dont think they will make you blind or anything.
I have been to the eye doctor many times, but one time I went to the eye doctor high on pot, I had a hard time focusing reading the letters when i was getting my eyes checked. :lol:

absolutely.  I get funky ripples in the ceiling and grains in the dark, sliding floor tiles.  This is kinda weird but sometimes when I take a shit I get crazy flying particles through the air making trails--not subtle at all, impossible to ignore. 

But I can see everything that's real just fine--my actual vision hasn't suffered--I just hallucinate a little bit too :smile:

It hasn't negatively affected my life in any way, just a little show here and there, so I'm cool with it.

Yes I have the same thing, sometimes I will see sparkles of light just flash out of nowhere, in fact i still see colors when i look at my white wall in my room. and i see small tracers all the time.

Yeah, I've been seeing more tracers as I look at lights from the bus or walking about.

Also, the whole taking a shit and seeing sparkles, that's actually natural. It's when you exert force on your body oxygen can get squeezed out of certain cells and it just causes you to "trip-out" or get light-headed. Like sometimes when you bump your head or push something heavy you see "stars".... same concept.

Sometimes I see like a tiny white sparkle flash somewhere in my peripheral vision that lasts like maybe a couple of miliseconds. Is that the same thing you're talking about?

YES. read the other post about this I'm not going to type out my experience again. But they also give you hppd which really isn't a big deal more just existent i guess.

so do i, all the time too, lol.

and i swear my speech is all messed up, like im retarded/fried.  it's funny because it's not all the time but when i do it, people just laugh.

like today at work i said "so you want to do that true" instead of too and then i repeated "so you want to do that true" and the guy just laughed, haha.

but then again it's only been about 6 weeks since i stopped using shrooms and i was using them like every 2-3 weeks for a year straight and i was taking 5-6 grams each time.  :lol:

Yep I get this also. Kinda looks like the matrix thing on the wall for a couple seconds. Doesnt really bother me, kinda makes me smile and remember times that ive tripped.

How old are you? do your read a lot /study? Family history of bad eyesight?

Yes. They can mess with your vision. I like to think of it as psychedelics way of saying

"Im gonna make your vision diffrent and filled with static to remind you that none of this physical shit really matter, JUST LIKE TV!"
