YA's guide to good music

You may ask yourself: why does my musical taste suck? it is probably because you listen to the radio.
1) turn off the radio unless it is NPR. 2) a good rule of thumb is that almost every single band from the 90's on with the word "the" preceding their band name... sucks fetid donkey balls. 3) when you spend time talking to someone about music and they tell you about a band you have never heard of before.... really go find it and listen to it. 4) listen to the entire song and album before you say it sucks. art was meant to be enjoyed in its entirety, not the first 15 seconds. 5) the reason why most of the greatest bands arent famous is because they arent trying to "hook" you with some catchy repetitive beat in the first 15 seconds. 6) when you are asked "what kind of music do you like?" dont say "everything but country (or rap)"... it makes you look retarded and shows just how tiny your musical exposure is. 7) if you like: evanesence, Linkin Park, puddle of mudd, nickelback, POD, Korn (you get the idea).... kill yourself. You obviously have failed at life. 8) listen (you dont really have to watch) to these videos as a mini primer on what good music is, so that you can recognize it if you ever hear something like it again.
(*people, I know this is pretentious. I intended it that way, so lets not make this a debate about how pretentious I am)
Primer:
mr bungle
estradasphere
king crimson
mats/morgan doing "Chicken"
secret chiefs 3
aphex twin
danny elfman
Manu Chao
lettuce
that is all for now. maybe a more advanced primer will come soon.
also, there are a lot of genres out there not covered in that primer.... mostly because they dont have youtube videos up for certain things I wanted to show you. so maybe I will actually take the time to upload certain songs... but for now that should get you going just fine.

I would have picked the Same Bungle and Estradasphere tunes. In fact I imagined hearing the aux. percs intro to Goodbye Sober Day even before I clicked play.
Do you know if Deserts of Traun or whatever it's called was ever released?

Some good tips there. The main one is STOP LISTENING TO THE RADIO. Basically, great music isn't just going to be handed to you on a platter. You have to do some research and dig through shit to find that gold. Another good rule is - Give it a chance, step outside your comfort zones. Some of my absolute favourite albums or bands did not quite mesh well on the very first listen. Then again, those kind of albums will stick with you for a lot longer than the sugar coated rhythms that catch you straight away, but then get boring after 2 weeks.

Is it wrong that I simply dont like almost anything Mike Patton has done.
I listen mostly to all sorts of jazz(from tatum to medeski martin and wood), phish, the dead, bluegrass, skinny puppy, nine inch nails and even some metal music(pantera forever). And I like korn (and it has nothing to do with their lyrics) Sorry, I too dont like most country or rap. That doesnt mean im ignorant.
Funny post though.
If I had to drop a line about what you FUCKERS have been missing, id probably keep it short too:
Herbie hancock grant green george benson(BODY TALK people BODY TALK!!!!!!) santana, the fusion years dr john pre 1960s ska(its all good) "The dead", after jerrys death. satriani allan holdsworth(insane guitarest from mars) Art tatum art pepper mingus miles phish almond bros merl saunders peter tosh sun ra the meters garage a trois sly and the FAMILY stone your momma.........
And yes, BJORK too ya assholes.
The list goes on and on.
Elton john!!!!! david bowie!!!!!!!!!!!!fuck you mister bungle................lol
Enough said

Ya that shit is funny.
I dont push art on anyone just because its fucking awsome.
I really dont like most rap though, and I dont like most country.
Sue me. Im a jazz musician(guitar for the most part). I wouldnt expect a rap or country fan to love any jazzy shit as much as I do.
I have heard rap I really like, and love some country. Its just, If you suck, I wont listen to that bullshit.
Im a jazz musician, so I just know what I have heard.
Almond bros are one of my fav bands for example. That doesnt mean I listen to country though.
All bluegrass kicks ass though. Cant loose with the good old.

The only good advice, and an average generalization at that, was to not listen to radio music. 'Rely' would of been a much better word.
You seem like one of those people who thinks it's not cool to listen to music that's popular. You have to be "different".
A good tune is a good tune. A catchy riff is a catchy riff. And a song one person likes might not be what another likes.
Animals by nickelback is a great tune. Feeling way to damn good is another that comes to mind. When those songs are turned up loud, the only way you can't enjoy it is to stew in your own inadequicies and anger at not making it big. OR like I said...you just don't dig it. If you don't dig it, that's fine. If you just hate it because it's what is "cool" to hate, your a huge tool.
To anyone reading...being one of those people who comes across as an elitist with music, just makes you look sad.

meh, there is a huge difference between mindless entertainment and appreciation of fine art. sure, the catchy tune gets you humming it for a few hours, or maybe tapping your toe, but fine art, and acme craftsmanship of music is perspective altering... as opposed to "rawking out".
as for nickelback...
I could put "nuff said" right here.... but it doesnt stop there.
&feature=related
he got boo'd out of Portugal, and hit with rocks, then cried and ran away like the worthless peice of shit that he is. If you cant get foreign people to "rawk out " to your music, people that are so behind the times that they just got Dire straights on their portugal MTV.... then you need to kill yourself.
