Tchaikovky's symphonies are amazing. I really love Vivaldi's 4 Seasons

Road beat me to it but he's right. This... Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings" Opus 11.... is a MUST. Blastrid is also correct, Vivaldi - The Four Seasons. Another great listen. Try Wagner - Ride Of The Valkyries. Mozart - Symphonies Nos. 28 & 41

Satie (Gymnopedies and Gnossiennes), Carmina Burana (though it's fake mediaeval), Mozart (especially the Requiem), Prokofiev, Albinoni, Krieg, Wagner... and give "Dead can dance" a try (though they're from the 80s-90s they've done some very good research on classical themes and dances: absolutely trippy voice and instruments!!!)

There are far too many great recordings out there to recommend just a few. A lot depends on what kind of music you respond to best.
If you're really serious about learning more about classical music, I have a couple of suggestions:
Pick up a copy of Aaron Copeland's "What to Listen for in Music." This is a very helpful, basic beginner's guide to appreciating classical music. A slightly more advanced guide is Jan Swafford's "Vintage Guide to Classical Music" which also has suggestions for good recordings.
If you are serious about building a collection, check out "The Gramophone Good CD Guide" or "The Penguin Guide to Compact Discs," both of which give great advice on which recording to choose for a given piece of music. All recordings are not the same.
If you're not that serious, just pick up a few recordings at random from the Naxos label. They're cheap (about $6-$7 per CD) and the quality of their performances and recordings is generally pretty good. Who knows, you might discover something that really moves you.
Also, here's a link to a website that provides links to dozens of online classical music stations:
http://classicalwebcast.com/
If you have any other specific questions, feel free to PM me. Classical music is one of my specialties.

a few recommendations:
any of bach's cello suites
franz schubert's: death and the maiden aka: (der tod un das madchen?) germans, correct me if i am wrong on that translation.
apocalyptica: for some hardcore, more modern classical.
mozart
alexander scriabin (hard to find, but good)
the list is too long to keep going. check them all out.

fernando sor, matteo carcassi, dionisio aguado, fernando carulli, gaspar sanz, francisco tarrega, segovia, and villa-lobos. there are also modern guitarists like john williams, gypsy kings, and others. they will totally blow your mind. especially this chick that is real famous right now. i can't remember her name. i think she was a protoge of segovia. she kicks major ass. check around; i can't remember all the good guitarists off hand. there are too many.

hey that would be great im new to "real" classical guitar but i can play lots of zepplins stuff like "babe im gonna leave you" thats fingerpicking and i love it. i have learned everything on an ovation classical non cut-a-way from 1981. i love it and it has history it was my uncles before he died in a plane accident. so what ever you would teach someone with the basic concept of finger picking but nothing else is what im looking for i guess. the only thing i can play that is a real classical tune is greensleeves. a while back someone(sorry cant remeber his name) came to San Antonio who had won several world contests and held a seminar like thing people got up and he taught everyone i went but as a spectator cause i didnt want to embarasse myself. thats when i got interested. thanks for all your help mr. mushrooms blaze2

Eric and Mr. M have lots of good piece recommendations. I'm studying classical guitar at college, i'm in my 3rd year. although I've been playing electric for about 4-5 years. I'm studying some Villa-lobos and Giuliani right now, and will probably go into some Sor and Bach after that. I was first so turned off because there is a lot of technique involved. but it's just a matter of getting the feel of it. hehe.. i wish i owned a better classical guitar. maybe someday Good luck with your studies. some simple (sometimes boring) way to start out are some of the Sor studies, and a lot of the Leo Brower etudes are very interesting and focus on one technique. Have fun Oh, and I'd also recommend getting a training technique book along with material to play. Learning technique is as important as learning the notes.

here is something i can't believe i forgot to mention. alexander scriabin is one of my favorites. he had some interesting ideas and styles. i have one of his pieces, prelude op.11 no.6, arranged for guitar in .gif format. it is fairly simple and anyone who wants this file is free to pm me their web address and i'll send it to you. two recommended albums: "the italian baroque: great vivaldi concertos" put out by infinity digital. it's one of my favorite albums. "russian orchestral classics: rimsky-korsakov (scheherazade)" also by infinity digital.
