lucid dreams
    #765569 -

i was triing to get lucid dreams one night and finally fell asleap. then i woke up in my bed(in my dream) and walked to my bathroom. when i was in the bathroom my shirt was off but when i looked in the miror i had a lether jacket on. i try touching my chest and in the mirror my hand goes through the jacket. then i thought for a second and put my hand on the skin on my neck while watching in the mirror i drag my hand from my neck to my chest(jacket) and my hand goes on top of the jacket so i can feel the jacket. this is when things start getting weird(er).
i start getting dissy and feeling a little heavier as i walk toward my bath tub. then i fall half way into the tub so my legs are still out. my vision starts to spin in complete circles, not all around the room but looking in on place it was spinning clockwise. i just keep staring strait into the tub not moving thinking it will be over soon. after about 20 or so seconds of this my consiosness changes slightly and things stop spinning.
i get up and walk back into my room then i go out my window. the next thing i know im on my bike talking on the phone, not a cordless( the phone line went all the way back to my house) and i was on this street. in a residential area. i look down the street and see some people out of there house and one of them starts chasing me, a mexican. i start riding off but can't go fast cause the phone in my hand. then i fall off my bike and while on the ground the guy comes up and slits my throte. i then exept that death is coming and i wake up. the end

anybody have any lucid dreams to share? or comments on mine?

i may have missed it, but how is this a lucid dream? sounds interesting nonetheless, but it doesn't appear you could control your dreamstate, nor even recognize that you were in a dream.

the closest i've been to having a lucid dream is i recognized i was in a dream, i'm pretty sure i was just standing in some random room, and i got too excited and woke up. i'm beginning to write down my dreams more often which will definitely help

I've had a few dreams where I could fly around, after I realized it was a dream.

A few times I would drift off and be in a lucid dream for less than a minute and then panic and race back to my body and wake up quickly with a choking feeling around my neck. It was pretty damn scary...

I've had a lot of lucid dreams, but I can't have them at will. They're so vivid and real I can't stop thinking about it the whole day. Often I'm only lucid for part of the dream, but once you learn to act and move around without waking up, it's just like you've been transported to another world. You can look around, talk to people, and since you're lucid, you are aware there are no consequences. There are techniques on the web for how to have lucid dreams more often. The main thing is to have a dream journal to record every detail about every dream you have, and underline every part that should have made you realize you are in a dream; "Ok, my roomate is carrying a sword... I might be dreaming." Also, during the day, just look around and ask "Am I dreaming" to get into the habit of doing it while you really are dreaming.

When very young I had nightmares several times a week - then those stopped and I had lucid drems: I would fly around walk, walk and breath underwater, run around freely in my dream and I knew it was a dream. Now I just have whacked out dreams. I write them all down, and since I have started to have lucid dreams again. Just two though, and both times I woke up very quickly afer realising I was in a dream. I am very facinated with dreams.

Ok
This is getting a bit strange. If one were to take xanax, coul dthis precipitate a "lucid" dream. before a week ago, I had never even heard of a lucid dream. i have been under much stress at work and couldnt sleep. I took a xanax and last night, I had a lucid dream. it was very cool. I visualized beautiful places, waterfalls, and I felt like i was in a rain forest. i have never even been to a rain forest. Very interesting how this occured and I wasnt even trying and especially after having just read about it.
Any thoughts?

there are many plants from africa that induce lucid dreams, such as blue lily and there's even a fish that when eaten alive releases chemicals in your stomach that induce lucid dreams. so i see how taking xanax could do the same thing. maybe ill try that.

I dont think that lucid dreams can really be drug induced, although when I take melatonin I have more dreams then average.

Lucid dreams are more just in your head. You must recognise that your in a dream and that you can control it at will - then learn to control your dream without waking up until you want to. It takes time, but is well worth it - instead of loosing hours of your life sleeping, you can spend them in a whole other world.

you kind of just contradicted yourself, plus those african plants i spoke of induce dreams and were used by africans and are used today.

>Lucid dreams are more just in your head.

And what decides whats in your head?? Chemicals. Like those in blue lilly and dream fish.

I was just talking about lucid dreaming with my roommate before I read this thread, how odd. I have lucid dreams almost once a month and everytime I do it's a pleasant experience. It is true that you have to learn how to control yourself so that you don't wake up. I've found that if I just take it easy and walk slowly and try not get too excited about anything going on in the dream I have an easier time staying in the dream. Alot of times I visualize a gorgeous woman in the dreams and well..one thing leads to another and the excitement level wakes me up out of the dream. Next time I have a lucid dream I'm going to to try and bring myself into some fantasy landscapes. I've tried this before and had trouble making it happen though. I think that since I realize I'm in the dream rules that apply in real life begin to apply themselves in the dream and it's hard to break out of that mindset. I always find myself wanting to try crazy things like jumping off of a building but I'm still afraid even though I know it's a dream. I've also seen those machines for sale that supposedly induce lucid dreaming by flashing the little lights, do those things actually work? If they do it would be a worthwhile purchase.

I didnt contridict myself... When I take melatonin I have more dreams then average, not lucid dreams.

The device that someone mentioned sences when your brain is in a dream state and flashes lights in your eyes. This is to remind you that you are now in a dream state - so that you can begin a lucid dream. I think it would work, but it would take a while for you to get used to, it would probably wake me up the first few times it started flashing.

Lucid dreaming is in your head - you must first recognise that you are in a dream state. I dont believe a drug can help that at all. It can give you more dreams than average, but not put you in a lucid state.

And what decides whats in your head?? Chemicals. Like those in blue lilly and dream fish.

What? That doesnt make sence - chemicals dont decide anything for you. Chemicals cant help you recognise the diffenrence between a dream and reality. Not in my opinion anyway. Have YOU (or anyone) personal taken these substences on several occations and experienced a higher amount of lucid dreams?

yes, someone i know has taken blue lilly and it definetly works. you kind of drift from vivid to lucid.

oh and the way those dream machines work is they see when your eyes move and know thats when your in R.E.M. sleep then they flash a light which reminds you that you have a dream machine, which lets you know your dreaming.

Yeah thats it - not brainwaves - it'd cost more then 500 if it did that REM's

The chemical thing I wont believe until I experience it. I think if anything its placibo - like a symbol. Like those magnetic bracelets that they sell in healthfood stores that "give you energy". i'm sure they dont really give you energy, but psychologically if you believe it...

You should try Calea Zacatechichi AKA "The Dream Herb". I bought mine from the Basement Shaman. it is supposed to induce lucid dreams. i have used it a few times with minimal success but i am probably not using it correctly. there are research studies that indicate its efficacy for inducing lucid dreams. tastes like crap. i have a big sack in my fridge.

In almost all of my lucid dreams I am flying. The most liberating feeling ever, I think.
I have no specific techniques which I use to induce lucid dreams, they just sort of happen.

if you are into lucid dreams or just the experience and complexities of life in general you should check out the movie "waking life." it's a beautifully done cartoon (or should i say animation) written and directed by the guy who did "dazed and confused." watching it leads to some great discussions.

what is really weird about this post is i had my first lucid dream this afternoon. i realized i was dreaming and then i wanted to be in a field- and voila- there i was in a field. then i jumped really high and looked down (bad idea)- and kind of scared myself awake. hopefully next time i'll make it last longer.

and on the topic of chemical induced lucid dreams- i was talking to a friend about my experience and he told me that while on the nicotine patch he had frequent lucid dreams, and told me it says something about dream-effects on the box... i thought that was sort of strange.
