lucid dreaming

I've been keeping a dream journal...

1. Before going to sleep, sit or lie in your bed for at least 30 minutes.

2. In total darkness, just focus your attention on darkness and try to visualise simple images, like the image of a triangle, a square, a leaf, or anything you like. For instance, focussing your visual attention on sexual images will ameliorate your concentration!

I wanna do this stuff, yet don't understand it. Am I pictureing an object in my mind with my eyes open and trying to see it on my celling in the dark or what?

you could do that. I would close your eyes if you plan to lucid dream.

There are alot of finer points that are harder to express.
I find that it is much harder to visualize somthing In your actual field of vision( like he suggests). Just think of an image and hold it in your head. The more your able to relax you will begin to get hypnagogic imagery and sounds.

I found that if I am still concentrating on the image during the hypnagogic state, the image will blip in front of my eyes. If you are able to keep going you will eventually experience other weird things. I am still trying to get use to the feeling of forgetting i have a body. It's a very easy for me to panic or get excited.

An interesting fact:
There is an herb called Calea zacatechichi, or Dream Herb, that appears do induce lucid dreaming in the vast majority of people who use it before going to sleep. It grows in the Chiapis region of Mexico, and the aromatic leavess are used in infusion by the natives. From what I know, it has no narcotic or hallucinatory value, merely oneirongenic (dream-enhancing), and is completely legal.
Leaves and extract are available from the Basement Shaman company (www.basementshaman.com).

I usually meditate before bed.  Once i hit the trance state i focus on one thing: going lucid.  Tell yourself you WILL have a lucid dream hundreds of times over and over while in trance.  Expect to have a lucid.  Then,  let the trance slowly fade into sleep.    This method has worked well for me.    I also have taken melatonin and it definately increases REM sleep.  It makes the dreams more vivid,  and the sets last longer, which gives you more opportunity to go lucid.  Hope this helps.  Good luck in your progress!

Mint leaves are supposed to enhance dreaming also.
