PNW findings, boletes chanterelles....
    #7648679 - 11/17/07 07:30 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

went back to pick some more chanterelles. i would like some opinions on these boletes, i believe they would be the queen bolete (boletus aereus)?? and i found some white chanterelles, the scent is somewhat different, could it be a discolored regular chant? and then there are the pelliculosa or sylvatica which i am positive about being either one of the two. thanks for any opinions or ID on the boletes. happy hunting!!!

At this point, just see if the boletes change color at all. If they haven't turned blue within an hour then they are definitely edible. Try scratching the tube surface and watching for color changes.

As far as the exact species, there are a few pretty similar species near those. All of the ones that don't bruise blue are edible and choice (I'm not counting the various similar Tylopilus species).

Happy mushrooming!
