Yeah, i went outside five minutes ago was walking down my street smoking a j, and i came accross some mushrooms. And this is my first none- galerinia find. And i dont have my damn camera. Well anyways, i can start with a description until i get my camera.
The mushroom cap is a golden tan color, darker in the center getting lighter moving towards the edge. The cap is conic but it is wavy on the end, it seems to "ripple". The spores are jet black, or maybe dark dark purple. but either way they are dark, and the gills are greyish/black.
Anyways, i live in michigan if that is of any help.

What were the gills like? Where they little circles (like a sponge)? or where they lines stretching from the stem to the end of the cap?
They might be, SLIGHT chance... i'm guessing, but don't follow my guesses. Since michigan is so close to Quebec... (lol)... might they be Psilocybe Quebecois?

This is from "The Psilocybin Producer's Guide". May these be of help to you. According to the document, there might be actives up in michigan, but the file was originally made in 1976. Alot of things can happen in that time lapse, so I may be wrong.
Psilocybe quebecencis: Found from summer to late October scattered in shady areas at forest edges, on sandy soil containing vegetable debris regularly inundated by river flooding, and on decomposing wood and debris (especially birch, alder, fir, and spruce) in the Quebec area. It thrives at lower temperatures than other Psilocybe species and produces carpophores at air temperatures of 43 to 59 degrees F.
Psilocybe semilanceata: Found August through September often in large groups on soil, among grasses, in clearings, pastures, meadows, forest edges, open conifier woodlands, and on roadsides -- but never on dung -- in New York, northern USA, British Columbia, and Europe. Generally regarded as one of the less potent species, but is sometimes quite potent.
Psilocybe caerulipes: Found in summer and occasionally autumn solitary or clustered on decomposing logs and debris of hardwood trees (especially birch and maple) in New York, New England states, Ohio, Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee and Ontario.
Panaeolus subalteatus: Found from spring to autumn grouped or clustered often in rings up to two feet in diameter on open ground, freshly manured lawns, straw piles, all types of compost, dung piles, and roadsides in Ontario and throughout the USA (especially in Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Washington, and Oregon). Optimum growth on MEA is at 86 degrees F. It occasionally occurs as a weed mushroom in commercial mushroom houses.
Psilocybe sylvatica: Found in September and October in small compact but unlustered groups in woods on leaf mold, debris (especially beech wood), around stumps and logs, but not usually on them -- from New York to Michigan and as far north as Quebec and Ontario. This mushroom is small and is often mistaken for P. Pelliculosa.
Look up those shrooms for pics and stuff, and compare ur shroom to the pics you found. And if you still aren't sure, give em to a street dog or what have you, and see what the effects are....
BTW- Does your shroom come in groups? Does your shroom have a broken veil? If it doesn't bruise blue, then my guess is not to eat it. Psilocin oxidices pretty quickly when handled, and turns blue. Very few shrooms don't bruise blue, so again... i could be wrong. (There is always that "1%")

Well you don't need any books to tell you if they are OK to eat. When you pic a shroom that you are not positive about slightly break the stem, wait a while if it doesn't stain blue where you cracked it, it isn't a "magic shroom" and therefore do not eat as it may be poisonous. There's only one species of "magic shrooms" that don't stain blue and you should not look for unless you are very experienced in shroom hunting because they normally grow under a highly poisonous shroom. If you want ID's on lots of shrooms w/o submitting a pic, I'd recommend Erowid.com. (no offense Shroomery you are a great site)

Um not really, that is, If you are talking about Panaeolus subbalteatus. Ps. Stunzii may be the ones you are thinking of though, if that is the case then this statement is correct... they grow near Galernias often.
