Same here, cuz if i still got my clutch foot, Ima put a hole through the floor looking for it (clutch) in an automatic

I'd say driving manual is better no matter what the condition for me... yes even rush hour traffic - if you time it right, you can stay in 2nd for quite a while, so its no biggy to "stop 'n go" if you timed it so you rarely have to stop.

And I LOVE downshifting on folks who ride my ass - I laugh out loud every fucking time... Made a dumb slut in a big truck drop her phone and spill coffee all over herself once - it was great

Where'd you get your clue? :smile:

My Prius has one, but it's an ECVT... same thing, but ELECTRIC!

I wish it came in manual, which is my prefered, but there is only one gear I guess!! :smile:

all the folks up north who drive around my hometown know not to fuck with us when we're on the road, because we're utter cunts when it comes to road rage,and we show no shame :crankey:

Actually I got a story to go with that

Was driving to work the other day at like quarter to seven in the morning... I was the only vehicle on the road so was I was doin a steady 75.  Finally I roll up on a vehicle and its doing about 40... I casually pass and continue on down the road to work.  I get up to the stop light a few blocks from my destination and the dude I passed rolls up next to me.

"What are ya passin me in the no passing zone for ya dumbass!?" is what he says... Now when I passed, the shit was completely legit and legal.

I look over at him and he looks as if he's either waiting for a response or trying to figure out why my music is so pleasing to his ears

My reply went something like this... "Way to teach your little boy how to get his ass beat when he learns to drive... dumbass" (his son was in the passenger seat - probably 8 or 9 years old)

His jaw dropped and he hung a right outside of the turn lane... Point of the story; how does road rage help anything.. ever?

I'm a pretty chill driver, I always let people merge in front of me, let people go first, and give other drivers the benefit of the doubt, etc. Sometimes though, there are just some total motherfuckers. :mad2:

What? SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) requires manual transmissions because they are in fact safer. If a driver should become incapacitated behind the wheel of a manual transmission automobile, there will be no more throttle input, causing the engine to lug and die. In an automatic, the car will continue moving at a minimum speed, possibly becoming dangerous to spectators or pedestrians.

I don't know what car salesman fed you that line of BS, but thats all it is. Besides, automatics break easier, and are more expensive to buy and/or repair. They also get worse fuel economy, and are considerably more sluggish to accelerate.

Depends what I'm using the car for. If it's an everyday car that I value for it's driveability, I'll want an automatic. If I'm racing or just out messing around and enjoying a drive, It's manual all the way.

wrong, that manual will keep on pulling you about the same as an auto...at least until you hit a hill or something that it doesn't have the power idling to clear, exactly the same with the auto

You can have cruise control in a manual transmission. My wifes car has it.

I buy manual transmissions because they are cheaper. Cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, and burns less gas.


CVT (aka Continuously Variable Transmission, not constant velocity) transmissions are coming into play, those will end up replacing standard 4gear (3+OD) transmissions hopefully. They should save a lot more in gas compared to conventional automatics.

Tiptronic transmissions are fun, you get the ease of an automatic transmission but the choice to shift at the points you want to shift at, or you can just let the computer management system do it all for you like a traditional auto.


Oh, for the most part, you shouldn't worry about becoming incapacitated and having your vehicle roll away on you if it's automatic. I've totalled 3 of them, and for some reason it seems like the newer vehicles have an emergency system or something. When I flipped the jeep it was still in drive but parked perfectly, when someone hit my premiere headon the engine was still running and they pulled the other vehicle away and my car didn't lurch forward even in drive.

Dunno if that's my luck or what. But I can see the problem in sports racing where you could easily become knocked out and have that problem happen.


Edit: Oh, the main reason for the lag in an automatic transmission is because of the hydraulic coupling, it's moved by pressure and the flow of the hydraulic fluid, so it always takes the same amount of time to move the coupling, vs. a manual which is levers and gears that are switched depending on how fast you can push the clutch in and change the gears.

Huh? maybe if the car was in neutral and you were rolling downhill... if the car is in gear and there is no fuel being fed to the engine, the car is going to stop
