Jet engines and Transmissions

Jet engines and transmissions are so cool. I like jet engines because they make a lot of noise. That is how you can tell something is strong. I also like transmissions. My mom told me that people who fix transmissions make a lot of money. Some day I hope I can fix transmissions becaues I would be cool.
the end.

Noise is inefficiency, ask an engineer. A good engine is quiet.

jet engines and the technology behind them rock..
depending on who you work for rebuilding transmissions is the deciding factor on how much you make..
all the high end cars... dont rebuild.. its all 3rd party bullshit..
but hey... zf transmissions are in most of the high end cars - porsches, land rovers, jaguars, mercedes possibly.. and some others.. that would be the company to get in with..
but your a teacher.. i highly doubt you want to rebuild trannys

not always..
a free flowing gas motor is going to make noise even in its most efficient state.

A good transmission is silent.

define silent.
the shift points in an everyday transmission make noise.
the cvt transmissions with 800 plus line pressures make noise as well.. just depends on where you are when you are listening to them

Then it's inefficient.
Energy used to produce noise is not being used to produce work. It's an inefficiency by definition.

Depends on what you mean by "good". Most transmissions have helical cut gears for silent operation, but they can't hold as much torque as straight cut gears, which are significantly noisier.

suck squeeze bang blow..
we all know that the gas/diesel motor is ineffiecient by definition.. however its all we know.
although.. noise can be a byproduct of energy and not so much a downfall of it.
depends on how you look at it. specially in gas/diesel motors. even brushless motors make noise

I think it does...he said a good transmission is silent, I just said that depends on what your criteria for "good" is.

Well I assume you're listening to them from either in the car, or outside the car. Not with a stethoscope on the damn transmission casing.

I don't want to really do anything with them... just talk about them incessantly to girls who aren't interested.
